Installed The B&W Companion/Ford Puck Hitch

Today I received the B&W Companion 20k 5th wheel hitch for my 2017 F-250 Super Duty SCREW with a 6.75' bed.

Mounted up nicely and I'll be anxious to tow with it to see how it performs.

One thing to consider IF you have a shorter bed and a full size tool chest... even with the hitch arms for the head mounted in the rearward position... the release handle just goes far enough forward to release and install pin as it contacted the tool box. Any closer and I would not have been able to get the pin in the hole in the release position.

BTW... questions about dimensions/adjustments/height to B&W before buying were answered promptly and courteously. Great company.

Just a head’s up, but I found that as long as I opened the hitch handle, I didn’t need to pin it in order to unhitch.

Arenít those jaws massive compared to others. Very smooth.

X2 on the not needing to pin in unlocked position. I never have.

Congrats, we have the same setup in our 2019 F350 CC diesel. Great setup and easy to pull the hitch in and out of the truck. I think youíll be very happy with it.

So jealous! When I bought my 2017 F350 I went with the Reese system offered by Ford. It works but nowhere as nice as my prior B&W. One day I'll squirrel enough coins away to get me the B&W again.

I had an older 15k Reese slider hitch (that I've never once slid in 18 years) that I had in several older trucks when we got the 2017 Super Duty. I bought the Reese puck adapter (picture frame) and continued to use that hitch in this truck but I'm anxious to see if there is any difference.

We'll know Wednesday as we are headed to Niagara Falls/Watkins Glen for a week or so.
