integrated brake controler

when I first bought my Evo 267ss i had a 2019 gmc elevation, RV dealer installled brake controller. When towing i had the gain set around 4. I just bought a 2006 ford f 350 Lariat that haas an integrated brake controller. Just went on my first trip with it. When I first took off, when I applied the brakes the controller showed 8 , but i couldn't feel the brakes being applied on trailer, i keep adjusting it up, at each increase in gain, 8.5,9.0,9.5 and 10, still could feel the trailer brakes being applied. P lowered back to 9 and when I slide the manual gain i could immediately feel the trailer brakes being applied.
Any ideas why when i apply brakes on the truck when gain set at 9 i can't feel the trailer brakes being applied, only when i use the manual slide on the controller do I feel the trailer brakes being applied.

I don't know about your year model, but my 2017 F-250 also has a "low-medium-high" setting, in addition to trailer gain, that you can mess around with. I wonder if yours is set on "low" and that might be causing your problems. Just a guess, as I just left mine on medium because it feels good. If you have those settings, it's something else to play around with.

By design the integrated brake controller provides a proportional signal to the trailer brakes. They take some getting use to. Look up the owners manual on how to properly set them up.
