Integrated Trailer Brake Module

New to the forum. Just purchased 2013 Ram 2500 to pull my 2013 FR Flagstaff 26WRB. One of the bells and whistles is a factory integrated trailer braking system. I need a tutorial on how to use it. I had a manual Prodigy P2 on my last vehicle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the 13 is the first year of the 4th generation Ram. I have a 2016 Laramie. How to use (change) the brake controller is model specific. You should be able to enter the controller through the steering wheel controls when parked. the selections are, Light Electric, Heavy Electric, Light Hydraulic and Heavy Hydraulic. The Hydraulic settings are for Electric / Hydraulic Disc Brakes. Light Electric for single axle units and Heavy Electric for 2 and 3 axle units. Once selected there is a +- gain button above the controller lever.

The owners manuals are available on line.

If your Ram is Cummins equipped the "Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum" is a good resource.

On my 14 and 17, the options for trailer type are accessed thorough the radio settings.

PART 2

Through the years there have been a few computer upgrades to the brake controller, if you are in for service ask if you have the latest version. The Ram brake controller is computer based and it is almost impossible to lock up the wheels. It decreases voltage about half below 30MPH, it monitors the brake magnets and will tell you if the circuit opens. (loss of trailer brakes) I set mine in stop and go traffic using the +- control. When I hit the brakes and the trailer brakes are very noticeable I back them off a bit. you want that 50/50 relationship between truck and trailer.

The owner's manual should tell you how to set up the system, such that in a panic brake situation, you get maximum trailer braking, but without locking up the rear brakes. This should be similar to the Tekonsha setup you are used to.
