Is this a decent WDH?

My bro in law gave me this for free around Easter this year. I don't have a TT yet, we've been looking at hybrids and TTs around the 20-25' range. Anyways, he gave me these and wondering how good they are:

From the dealer here, they install the E2 wdh which from what I understand is 2 pt sway control. They quoted $800 for an equalizer (lol) and probably the same for an Andersen. What do you guys think?

it's a basic chain-type WDH.
no integrated sway control like the Equal-i-zer but since it's free, it should be fine.

I've used an EZ Lift basic WDH like this for six years. It's worked fine.

Are 800lb bars ok for a Roo 233s?

Edit: Maybe I'm reading the box wrong. It says 800 lbs, but also says 10k lbs mgtwr. I'm assuming the 800lbs are the bars, correct?

The 800lbs refers to the tong weight. Most I have seen are like 1000lbs tong and 10000lbs max trailer weight or 1200-12000, 800-8000 etc...

So if 12.5% of the trailers tongue weight is ~850 lbs I'm over this hitch's specs? Dry is 623lbs so it'll be around the #800 range.

Correct... But all you would need is new bars that can handle the weight. The hitch head says 1400lbs max trailer weight 14000lbs...

Thanks I'll pull them out to make sure it's 800lbs or not, then post back. Appreciate it.

I spoke to several RV shops about hitches and lift bars and they all said that what is labeled is 'light', all are beefed up. You can use the 800 pound and it will be fine and you can sleep good at night. This is for 'tongue' weight for the lift bars. The hitch head says 1,400 pounds. You will not enough come close to that hitch head weight and that is the carrying portion. Will you break or bent the lift bars? Not very likely with your unit at all. But then again, it is your unit and you are the one living with it and if 1,000 pound bars on your unit will take one more thing off your mind while you are driving, all the better, spend the money and get beefier bars. imo, they are not needed.

I agree with Les, I would at least try those bars out before I spent the money on two new bars. My last TT i pulled with too light weight bars for the first year and I had too much rear end bounce. But I never felt like it was going to break or was unsafe. The next year I changed out the whole hitch system and I did get a better ride.

But you will always get different opinions on everything, do what ever fits within your comfort zone.

Yea I was thinking about it and my tongue weight would only be about 50lbs over, *IF* my trailer was maxed. Otherwise, it'll be right at or lower than the 800lbs rating. Obviously a trip to the scales would be the best way to determine the loads, but I think I'll be alright for the most part.

You will be fine with the lift bars that you have. My Brother-in-law has a 30 footer and he does not even use 'lift bars'. He does have a 'sway bar' on his, but has no need for a lift bar, his tow vehicle (F-250 Super Duty) laughs at his camper......

I'm right at my spring bar capacity, rides just fine. Try before replacing.

Yea I'll give it a go before I buy anything. We're still working with the dealer at this point so I've got time. Hopefully by next week we'll have something.

So, is that a 1400 lbs head, with 800 lb bars? If so, and they actually work together, that's fine for any Roo hybrid. You'll want to get a separate friction sway controller ($50-$100).

The 3rd pic is of the sway control. Should I have a pair (1 for each side)? Or is 1 enough. We've decided to go with the 233s and may be picking it up sometime this week.
