Just checking

We own a 2020coachman freedom express 257bhs.
Hitch Weight: 671 lb.GVWR: 7500 lb.UVW 5263 lb.CCC 2237 lb.
And looking at upgrading the tow vehicle to a 2015 Ford Expedition XL with the HD tow package (9200lb tow capacity, 1530 payload,7700gvwr)
I’ve gone over all the numbers and I think it’s a good fit for a family of 4 and a dog but it’s always nice to have a few extra eyes take a look any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated thanks

Well, 13% of the trailer's GVWR for loaded tongue weight is 975lbs plus 100lbs for WDH leaves you only 455lbs of payload for everyone(including the driver)in the car and any car cargo.

For me it was always hard to answer a question like that. My wife and daughter never revealed their weights. My Son, dog, and I didn't care but wife and daughter considered their weight "Classified".[emoji41]

It will work perfectly fine, especially if it has the 3.5 Ecoboost.

2X I'd also be pretty concerned about payload. Remember the figures for the TT are dry weight, not including propane and batteries on the trailer. Add all this up plus the additional weight of the WDH you may easily exceed payload.

Not if they exceed the Expy's payload capacity.

Thank you!
It's generally suggested to use 12%-13% of the trailer's GVWR to ballpark the loaded tongue weight of the trailer. Since single axle trailers have heavier tongue weights, than comparable tandem axle trailers, 13% is a good number to use.
Then you look at the tow vehicle's payload capacity sticker and start subtracting the weights.
The OP stated that their vehicle's payload capacity was 1530lbs.
I simply subtracted the estimated loaded tongue weight and 100lbs for the WDH, from the 1530 number. That left 455lbs for everyone in the vehicle and any cargo in it.

Thank you very much! Really appreciate it! We have about 1130 - (3961*0.13 +100) - 315 = 200lb cargo can go in car.

1130 - car payload capacity
3961 - TT GVWR
315 - passenger weight

Yeah, that payload is often overlooked a lot. It really should be the first variable one looks at. Even a small SUV has a decent tow rating for what it is, but has hardly the payload.

Can the OP’s vehicle do this setup? More than likely, and even if going just beyond the weight as engineers build in room for, let’s say miscalculation!

However, if you ever have a accident and hurt a third party, a good lawyer may know to have your numbers crunched to show extreme negligence! I am no lawyer nor favor many of them to be honest. But working for the government for over 25 years and dealing with them all the time and agencies like OSHA, I have come to see they love to find blame and a payday!
