LED Extra Lighting

I was thinking of adding some LED lighting to the rear for back up at night. I was also looking at some for the front for foggy or off road extra lighting.

Does anyone have any advice in this area? What type system is best for the money? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a Ram Bighorn 3500 Short Bed. I do have two batteries and alternators.

Best for the money is 2 18w LEDs mounted under the bumper and reverse wired to a double throw single pole switch. The switch can make them come on automatically with the reverse lights or manually turned on for accessory lighting.

For the front, even a 10" lightbar will light the road quite nice. i had one behind the grill in my F150 and used it often on rural roads and highways.

I put AutoStore bumper mounted LED fog lights on the back bumper of my trailer for backup lights. They'll work fine as extra backup lights on a truck. I've pointed them slightly to the side for wider illumination rather than straight back.

On the tow vehicle I swapped the OEM backup light bulbs for much brighter LEDs.

Added these LED's in my rear bumper, hooked them up to my up fitter switches. Makes plenty of extra light. Same with the front.

Tractor supply or any of your local truck accessory stores will have some nice thing about the later is they can walk you thru what you want and offer installation if you need it

I like them a lot too. My brother has them on hos RAM and it's a nice set up.

I honestly just can't bring myself to cutting holes in the factory bumper. I did find some light mount brackets that are a bolt on application. The lights sit just under the bumper bit are protected by the trailer hitch.

Measure twice, cut once. Also sprayed a rust preventative prior to bolting the lights in. Actually, I think I measured about 6 times! LOL

Good thinking on the rust prevented. That was kind of the main concern for me.

I also ran the 6” light bars to my rear bumper. Helps when picking up unit when in storage. Click image for larger version

I also put a second set on the TT rear bumper and control it with a remote controlled relay box that installed underneath by the main circuit breaker inside a snap lid “Tupperware “ container. Puts out a ton of light so DW doesn’t trip over anything when helping me back it into campsites.
