I just saw this thread. I’m about to buy a Sandpiper with the Rhino Box. I have a 2019 Silverado 3500 LWB. Anyone else having problems or did they start putting the longer pin boxes on them?

Reading this even with the fix or new inbox still does leave any wiggle room. I would make sure prior to purchase you can hitch up.

I don’t think thy change it from the factory. But I would ask the dealership about it before you pick the trailer up. The new pin box works great. And I really like the sandpiper . Hope this helps you out. And great camping wishes to you.

I’m buying the trailer out of state so I can’t try it out first. I went by a local dealer today and took some measurements. It was 73” from the center of the kingpin to the body of the trailer. It’s 69” inches from the center of my hitch to the end of the tailgate. I wonder if Chevy’s don’t have this issue. I know the inside of the bed on my 2017 RAM was close to 2” taller than my Chevy. That means the tailgate was longer as well. Being close When the tailgate is fine as long as it doesn’t hit.

Can you tell me what make model the replacement king pin is? Is it just a modified Rhino or something completely different. I also wondered if there are issues with making a 90-degree jackknife turn with the trailer crashing into the truck. I have a 2017 Ford F350 short bed and it looks like sharp turns are going to be an issue. I have put down a deposit on a new 31ik and thinking I better check things out while hooked up before I buy.

With the replacement Rino king pin I have plenty of clearance for turning. I have no issues with it at all

I wonder if they corrected it from the factory on the 2021’s. I picked mine up this week and have a ton of clearance.

What model did they replace it with. I have the same problem. I have 2016 F350 Dually long bed and also had the tailgate step. With a Sandpiper 39 Bark and if my wife wouldn’t have been watching when we pick it up I wouldn’t hit camper.

I can’t find a number on the new kingpin box. But if you call forest river warranty departments and ask for Judd he was really helpful in getting the problem resolved.
