looking for a new WDH for my new flagstaff 831 RESS
Hello Everyone, We just purchased a new 831 RESS . I will have to buy a new WDH . What is the best WDH for this trailer? I will be towing it with a 2015 GMC Sierra HD 6.0L gas . Rated to tow 14500lb.

Welcome and congrats on the new Flagstaff! With a trailer gvwr of 9421 lbs, I would get a wdh with integrated sway control. Equal-i-zer 4 point sway control is very popular. Reese dual cam or reese strait line are also very good. The reese dual cam can be a bit more difficult to dial in but is a good hitch. I would get 1200 lb bars for these hitches. These are the best bang for the buck. If you want to spend big $$ then look at pro-pride or Hensley arrow. They are top of the line. Do not get friction sway control for that size trailer.

You will not be disappointed if you purchase a Hensley hitch. Research it and call the factory. Also, a reconditioned unit is considerably less expensive and comes with the same lifetime guarantee.

X2 on the Equalizer 4. It works. It's simple. It's affordable. The dealer wouldn't go any lower on our (used) TT price, but they included the E4 WDH & some other stuff for "free"... Our TT is 8,250 ready-to-camp w/tongue weight close to 1200 & I feel no sway even in high winds, semis passing, etc. even on our last trip to the Smoky Mts.
The pricier WDHs are to fix problems associated with underrated TVs. Your TV is a good match for this size TT. Flagstaff 831 RESS appears to have a nice roomy floor plan for the weight. Enjoy!

The dealer sells the Reese dual cam and he also
suggested the Blue Ox? I never heard of it. Any Comments on the Blue Ox?

Is there any good web sites to price out the Reese and the Equal-i-zer 4 point sway control ? Sometimes it just comes down to price.

Booniey,
I'll sell you a 10,000 lb equalizer 4 point sway control for $200 plus shipping. We used ours 2 seasons and now have a 5th wheel and not needed. NEVER had a sway issue when using one of these.

Blue Ox For Sale
I have a Blue Ox Swaypro hitch for sale. It was purchased last summer and was used for one major trip to the western US. This hitch is noiseless, easy to hitch up and eliminates sway. Another great choice is the Equalizer. You can't go wrong with either. I actually have both so one has to go and I've decided to keep the Equalizer. Please let me know if you're interested in the Blue Ox. It has 15000 lb bars.

WDH
X2 on the Equalizer hitch. After loading to camp I would recommend the 1200# hitch to give you some latitude. You didn't say if the GMC was 1500 or 2500. If it is 1500 (like mine) you are okay, but I am adding air bags to help level the truck; if you have 2500, then you are in great shape with nothing needed.

Have a Flagstaff 841 I tow with Silverado HD. Switched to the Blue Ox 4 years ago. After towing in excess of 20k miles, have been very pleased with it in how it handles and the speedy hookup. Had a friction bar before, hated the noise and adjustments that did not hold for the whole trip. Have heard good vibes about Equalizer as well.

Using the GVWR:
9421 * 13% = 1225 lbs TW (wow!)
I like to add 100 lbs, then round up to the next rating.
1225 + 100 = 1325. So a 1400 lbs unit would protect you thru the full GVWR.
15% TW puts you over 1400 lbs, and I don't know if they actually make larger than that.
Estimating an actual loaded weight:
7897 (dry) + 1000 (options and stuff) = 8897 loaded weight
8897 * 13% = 1157
1157 + 100 = 1257. So the 1400 unit is still good for you.
8897 *15% = 1334
So, you need to get a 1400 rated WDH, then keep your TW as low as possible (but never less than 10%).
What is the best one to get? The best are those Heneseley (too many e's?) or ProPride, but they are awfully expensive.
Best bang-for-the-buck has been the Equal-I-zer, or the Dual-Cams (Reese, Drawtite, etc). Slightly more expensive is the Blue Ox, but I don't like all that flex in the bars. Very subjective. As long as you have integrated sway control, most people are very happy with their choice.
Anderson WDH has a following, and have fantastic sway control, and ease of operation. But you must understand that they have very limited WD capability. If that GM is a 3/4-ton, it might work for you. If it's a 1/2-ton HD, not a chance!
I see that someone has a 15000/1500 Blue Ox system for sale. That might be perfect for you, since it's possible you could exceed 1400 lbs TW.

I'll x2... x3... or x4 whatever we are at right now for the Equalizer 4 Point. Had it now for a few years and many 1,000s of miles (I think 8,000) and love it.

Booniey, that should do the job. Go with thebrakeman's suggestion, instead of mine, and get the 1400# hitch. I have a 1400# Equil-i-zer on my TT and it is 8500# ready to camp with a 1100# hitch weight, pulls fine, good sway control. I added the Equil-i-zer Sway Bracket Jackets to quieten the hitch down when moving in and out of parks. The noise may not bother you, so you may not need or want them.

I use the Blue Ox Sway Pro on my 2015 Ram towing my Wildcat MAXX 28RKX which weighs in at approx 8K empty. You can choose the from several different "bars" depending on the weight of the trailer you are towing. I couldn't be more pleased with the Blue Ox and strongly recommend you give it a long look. You won't be sorry!!!

My Surveyor comes in about 8300 lbs loaded for travel. I use the Equal-i-zer and can't speak highly enough of it.

Regarding your Blue Ox Swaypro, is it an overmount or undermount? I am interested in buying an undermount. How much are you asking for it?
