Michelin LTX M/S 2 LT 265/70R17

Hi Folks

I have been browsing a few threads and it would appear that the above tire would be a good choice for my TV

I did purchase these tires 3 years ago and after 33000 miles they need to be replaced. Of those 33000 miles 75% would be towing the 5th wheel.
All 4 tires wore out from both inside and outside edges first.
I have had an alignment done and checked. I have rotated the tires 3 times.
My question is would this be expected wear. Costco dealer says yes. I ran the recommended truck pressure which was 60 psi front and 70 psi rear. Should I have increased the psi when towing. Say 70 front and 75 rear.

By the way TV is a rebuilt but there was no frame damage.

I've run that brand tire for many years towing. (not same size)
On the rough surface roads here in PA I usually get 35-40,000 miles on them but it is even wear across the tire.
Wear on both the inside and outside edges are typical signs of under inflation.
Inside wear only (or outside wear only) is usually a sign of an alignment problem.
You likely should be inflating to the cold PSI on the sidewall of the tire.
Also 3 rotations in 33,000 miles isn't enough.

Most likely under inflation of the tires is what is going on while you are towing. I would try another set and while towing after it is loaded bump up your tire pressure and see what kind of results you get. Don't go crazy for PSI but just a few lbs and see if you notice a difference in wear. You can go to a auto parts store and get a tread depth gauge and measure across the tire at certain mileage intervals such as rotation periods. As a rule of thumb for cars rotations were recommended around every 6-7.5 K for mileage. As for the mileage I would say that's about normal for what you are using the truck for.

Web search will give you lots of pictures of both under and over inflation tire wear. You describe classic under inflation. With that tire you should be running 80 front and rear.

I have the same tire on my F-350 and get 50K out of them. Proper tire inflation is posted on the door label. For my truck it's 60 lb front and 80 lb rear. I rotate them at every oil change 5k or 7.5k depending on conditions.

You need to remember, the tire pressure on the door is designed for the best ride in an empty truck, with the tires that came on that truck. If your towing I think you will find your best wear will be with the recommended PSI on the sidewall. Check them cold and daily. Also keep in mind a change in altitude will change our PSI.

I have only used Michelins on my 2004 F150 from day one until I sold it at 165,000 miles. It was then on its third set of tires and they still had lots of tread left. I can't say enough good about them. The F350 already had Michelins when I bought it used and I don't know how many miles are on those tires.

I bought mu Ram 2500 on a Friday and on Monday I took it to the tire shop and had Michelin LTX's installed. They ride far better than the Firestones and I have never had any tire last longer than Michelins.

80 psi on an empty truck would be pretty rough . i run max psi when towing 80 psi all around . better gas mileage and the tire wear even . when not towing and an empty TV it's 65 rear and 70 front

I had the Michelin tires on my ole Dodge when I got it with 65k on it...they weren't new then. I ran it 70k more...yes you could see the air, but they were the best I ever ran.

I currently have the 285 x 70 x 17 version of them and have had 2 prior sets of the 265 x 70 x 17. Both sets of 265s served me well. The first set went 88K and still had tread, second set went over 70k and I just replaced them due to cracking in tread. Best tires I've ever owned

I love the 285s, makes the Ram look better.
