You can remove the def and I’m thinking about it but if I do take the def off it will have to stay off. I’ll only be able to sell the truck to a private buyer, I won’t be able to trade the truck in

Tow Vehicle

I like the pulling power of my 5.7L Tundra pulling a 4600 lb. (dry weight) Rockwood Mini Lite. It handles hills, wind, and oncoming tractor trailers very well. However the mileage is very low when towing so that took some getting used to.

I have a 2016 ecodisel, and A214H I get about 24 mpg pulling on the highway at 60 mph, and it doesn't feel like anything is even behind me

The new F150 diesel is the one that Jag/Land Rover have been using the last few years. I’m sure some changes will be made for truck applications.

Ford's new F-150 Diesel looks like a great engine but the big problem is that the Diesel is only available on the high end trim. MSRP on the Diesel starts at $46,000! Yikes. Might as well get the F-250 with the big Diesel. At least you can get the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel on any trim including the Tradesman. MSRP for the Ram EcoDiesel starts at $28,000.

Test drive them both & buy the one you want the most. Both will do well with that TT. If you don’t have a preference; If you have a short commute & live in cold climate buy the gasser. If you have a long commute get the diesel.

For the guy with the common hitch weight misunderstanding. Over a 5k trailer the truck Mfgs recommend a WDH. The hitch dives that 1,000 pounds between the TV & TT. It may redistribute 250 pounds back to the TT axles. You may only see 750 divided between the TV axles.

Fwiw Per my signature line I have a transporter business and have been using the ED. 370,000 miles transporting TTs. Been on a few Cat scales. Ford’s f150 GVWR is normally 7,000 the ED is 6,950. Not a hugh difference. People make too much of the payload thing. It’s way more important for safety & stability to when loaded Set your WDH to A replace your unloadedsteer weight B not exceed your max drive axle weight and C so that your TW is in the 10 to 15 percent range.

I pulled my ROO19 with a 2014 ram 3.6 with 3:55 back end. It did great. Are you going to break any speed records going up hill, no, but I never had any problem with this set up. I only had this combination for a year and a half as I upgraded to a bigger trailer and therefore had to move up in tow vehicle as well. If this is all you will be towing, the 3.6 is well worth it. In my opinion, the ecodiesel is not worth the added expense if this is all you are pulling.
