Need quick help
My cousin is hauling his TT home now from storage. All 4 brakes are locked. Turns out his break away plug and cable are missing. Is there anyway to bypass this singe can get it home to fix it? He's stuck on the road now. Thanks

I believe cut the two wires that go to break away and splice them together .
if not just cutting them at breakaway will solve it .
I cant remember if the breakaway id n.o or n.c .

Ok thanks for the quick reply. Apparently someone else needed the cable and pin where he stored it.

Yep that worked. He cut 1 wire and they released. He got home safe. Thanks again for the quick help! Now he just has to get a replacement cable and plug.

Turbo is the man!
Sounds like one of those items to buy and have an extra one laying in the storage compartment.

This would be a great example of having a spare.
Orrrrr take urs out when parked in a community storage lot and place it inside camper!
Good lesson here to be absorbed!

Now I'm confused. If he had his trailer in storage, and someone swiped the cable, that would lock the brakes, IN STORAGE. How did he get stuck on the road? I realize if someone swiped the cable while in storage, it would have locked the brakes, and killed the battery, but after just a few minutes of being plugged to the tow vehicle, the battery should have come up enough to lock the brakes, definitely not "on the road".
Inquiring minds want to know. Sorry, as an engineer, I try and figure out problems. On here, all I know is what I read.

His aftermarket brake controller was showing nothing on the gain. He started to make his way home and thought he was having a problem with his controller. After trouble shooting over the phone with him we arrived at the breakaway. He only made it maybe a mile where he had it stored, then pulled over. Obviously he said the trailer brakes were dragging and squealing. Good lesson learned here about checking the breakaway. If the cable were there I'm certain he would have hooked it up. He was in a hurry after work to clean and prep for our trip today. Thanks to the help from here we are going camping together with his family and mine and another group of his friends. We will have a beer for you guys for your help.

From a technical standpoint I don't know how or when the plug was pulled and trailer brakes were actually activated. You would figure over time the backup battery would die. Anyways bypassing the breakaway by cutting a wire released the brakes and now they operate normally with the brake controller.

Removing the groung wire at the battery should kill the brakes. Right? I had the same issue with my new TT. When I made a sharp left turn the breakaway wire sagged so much that when I got straight it got snagged on the hitch and pulled out. I'm here to tell ya that even with a Duramax pulling the TT I knew the brakes were on and pulling a mile like this was out of the question. Besides the truck was going nuts with alarms that the trailer brakes were out of whack.
FYI. To reset the truck after an event such as this. With the truck stopped, foot of brake, set emergency brake and put in park, shut truck down. If you don't take the pull off the trailer when you pulg the breakaway in the TT will jump forward. Pull the trailer plug, start the truck, put the plug back in, you should be good to go. Should work on GM. I don't know about the Fords of Dodges.
Just putting the breakaway in will not clear the alarm in the truck.

Should read....... foot off brake, let the tension between the truck and TT relax.

JeffK, it sounds like your friend's trailer brakes need adjusting, very badly! There is no way he should have been able to move with the breakaway switch activated. The camper is not safe the way it is.

If the battery was dead or badly discharged, it would take at least a mile for the tv to get enough charge to activate the emergency brake to activate.
