New Camper & Equalizer

Getting ready to take delivery of my new Camper this week. It's a 2013 Flagstaff 26RLSS. I currently own a 6000lb Equalizer hitch. The new camper has a tongue weight of 603lbs and a gross weight of 6603lb. My question is, am I putting myself in some kind of serious danger using this hitch? Is the difference in the bars and if so, is there some place where I can just purchase 8000lb bars rather than another $500 for a new one?

Thanks,

Sailfish Bret

Unfortunately, with Equalizer brand hitches you can not just upgrade the bars...you need to get a whole new hitch. Personally, the reason I purchased an Equalizer is greater safety for myself and my family. Since, the trailer is over the hitches rated limits, I would get a new one rated at 10,000lbs. That's what Progressive Manufacturing recommended for my 4,800 lb. trailer. You may not necessarily be putting yourself in danger but it won't be as effective at doing what it is supposed to do.

You might also consider the Anderson WD Hitch, it is what we just replaced out 10000lb equalizer hitch with and we love it. It is actully the reason we finally joined the fourms to praise this hitch and how it improved our tow. we haul a 2012 Salem 29QBDS and it is about 8500-9000 loaded and the old equalizer was needing upgraded to the 14000lb model. If you are set on equalizer, go to their site and the online tools are very good at helping you select the best hitch for your configuration.
