Always one die hard Ford guy that just had all these GM issues, I think he has also had a few Ford issues but that never comes up.

As I mentioned all 3 manufactures now provide dependable vehicles.

2003 chevy 2500 hd 6.0 gasser 188236. miles use it daily, tow across country every yr . adding up all my maintenance costs over the 13 yrs i owned the truck came to 249. per year excluding regular maintenance ,oil changes, tires etc .

the best thing is when you do replace things like brakes i buy the life time warrant pads , fan clutch , etc so if i have to do again it's just my labor . have done the brake a few times but only once paid for the pads . on my 3rd set of ranchero 9000 shocks but after the first purchase the rest were free .

Same here. I have a 2013 with 49K on it and it has been a good vehicle. The Active Fuel Managment (AFM), now called Dynamic Fuel Managment. Is a deal breaker for me on my next vehicle as well.

Anytime you introduce a complex system into a vehicle you create more failure points and decrease reliability.

Many of the GM vehicles mentioned in this thread do not have the AFM system so keep that in mind.

Based on the highlighted statement, do not buy a GM. You will not be happy with it. Reliability will have nothing to do with it. The first (and all other) time something goes wrong with the vehicle you will be kicking yourself. I'm a GM guy, the last Ford I bought when it had a problem I kicked myself for buying a Ford. The same problem in a GM, I would have thought nothing of it.

If you had trouble last time, why are considering another one? Just asking.

I had a Chevy pickemup that must have been from Kansas. I could not keep a clutch in it. Turns out it has a rear end ratio of 3.07 to 1 or something close to it. I talked with the dealer. They said you are on your own. I became a Ford man and have never looked. 7.3 rules.

I can't answer your question very well but I bought a 2018 1500 9 months ago and 6k miles on it now and I'm very impressed, I was a Toyota guy for a long time so my last toy truck was very disappointing, traded it in, yes I would buy a GM again

I bought my 2015 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L gasser with the 4.10 rear end brand new in August of 2014.

It has been flawless as far as mechanical issues goes and now has over 76,000 miles on it and still going strong!

The only issues I've had with it (both covered under warranty) was the leather steering wheel started to come unstitched and the speakers were all blown!

Of course, now that it is no longer under warranty...the speakers are again blown...and I don't crank them up, either!

I'm going to buy a good set (6 total) of speakers instead of the stock ones since they can't seem to handle it and install them myself.

I plan on keeping this truck for at least 10 more years.

The 6.0 is a great engine . 188236 miles on mine and plan on going many more . not many gas engines out there with the durability of the 6.0 . in 2020 GM is coming out with a 6.6 gas and has my mouth watering a bit . if it's as durable as the 6.0 i'll up grade in 2021

This is good advice.

It's actually why I didn't consider Ram. I had bad issues with each of the three Chrysler vehicles I've owned (2 minivans and a Jeep). Comparing a Chrysler Town & Country to a Ram 2500 may seem silly and I'd admit that it probably is. Still, I limited myself to GM and Ford when shopping.

No sense setting yourself up to be angry or regretful. If GM burned you in the past, move on. With a new truck, they'll all be good trucks, though none will be perfect. As mentioned by RFSims, the imperfections in the GM are likely to bother you a lot more than some other brand.

Good luck.

06 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0

We bought this one used for cash in 2016 with 212,000 miles on it. I've trusted the brand enough to do that. We have 238,000 miles on it now and I've had to replace the AC idler pulley and then a year later the water pump. All together I have about $600 in non-maintenance items. That's about $200 a year instead of whatever payments would have been. All of the bells and whistles on the newer trucks are just asking for trouble. My wife's 2010 Terrain has intermittent electrical problems running around inside that causes non-related systems to sometimes not work and then they come back. Most of the dealers want big bucks to plug it into the computer to read what may or may not be working at the time.

Sad how these threads turn into brand bashing.

You can't go wrong with any new pickup..sticker shock notwithstanding.
Go with brand loyalty.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Many of you answered my question on reliability with your experiences. That’s what I was looking for. I guess I was curious since I’ve been out of the truck buying industry for a while. My last experience and my dads last experience with the GM duramax was a little ruff but like I said it’s been years. Chevys look great, have the payload capacity I want and will pull my little toy hauler pretty good I’m sure. Thanks again everyone for sharing your experiences.

In our little city in the Canadian wilderness it comes down to the dealer. We have basically one of each brand and at least an hour's drive to go elsewhere. We will never buy GM/Chev again because of their local representative. Just another idea.

212,000 . lot of miles the engine will last just don't know what things where done to it over the time those 212,000 were put on . i would rather keep mine with 188xxx cause i know just exactly what's been done and how it's been cared for . i'm sure to reach 300,000 and more

Don't quite understand the concern with fuel management. We have a 2013 Silverado with fuel management and it has been flawless. I don't believe it activates in tow/haul or at idle. The dash alerts us when it goes to 4 cylinders, but that and the MPG indicators are the only way of knowing. There is no drag/hesitation when starting up an incline or accelerating.

As for reliability, the only problem we have encountered in 60K miles was a parasitic draw having to do with the dome lights. We previously had a 2008 GMC Sierra with 4-spd auto. It was a great truck except it was gear searching when towing. The 2013 went to a 6-speed that solved that problem. There was a night/day difference in transmissions.

We have owned GM trucks over most of the last 50 years. We tried a Ford in the early '80s and a Ram in 2005. Both were gas guzzlers. I am not against either as they have changed over the years. But, we are pretty brand loyal.

Our 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 LT Diesel has been rock solid for all the years we have used it. We are now beyond 100K miles on the original brakes, and second set of tires (Michelins). It has not been flawless, but nearly all of the flaws have been corrected under warranty.

I'd buy another in a minute, and would never consider going back to a gasser.
