New dodge diesel mpg

Ok, we'll this week I am pretty sure I am going to pull the trigger on either a dodge CTD 2500 or 3500 SRW..
Anyone have some realistic numbers they can share for mpg? I have heard all sorts and I'm trying to decide if I want to get this now or wait for the newer 2013 model.

Rebates and incentives are really good right now...and there are a lot of changes for 2013 and I'm not sure I want to be a tester of all the new features

Tried to join but can't. Something wrong with the page. I have been on ramfourmz for years and I have been looking there but still have not gotten a real solid answer

Factory stock 2008 2500 QC CTD 4 x 4 with 36,000 miles on odometer weighing 8420 lbs loaded for camping and 3 adults towing 7200 lbs 31 ft TT Cherokee 26L. Towing in Alabama 1/2 interstate and 1/2 back roads I get 10.6 mpg worst...11.8 mpg best...62-65 mph on interstate and 45-55 mph back roads.

Had 2003 1500 QC with Hemi and it was 6.4 to 7.2 mpg.

Don't talk to the sales people, go talk to the service manager and get the real info not a bunch of sales nonsense. BTW many sites for Dodge info, I was a member of Dodgetalk.com for many years and they have lots of knowledgeable guys on there as well.

I can't directly help you since my truck is different that what you're looking at, but for my diesel 2012 Ram 3500 DRW w/ 4.10 gears - I'm getting 11-13 around town and 8-11 towing.

Just pulled mine from Va to Myrtle Beach S.C. and back and got between 10 and 11 mpgs. Mine is 2011 2500 Quad cab with CTD and SRW. Around town empty truck I am getting 15 to 16 mpgs. Hope this helps.

all good info, thanks. The 2012 I am looking at is basically the same as the 2011. Same engine. I was hoping to hear around 12-14 towing, but hey, it is what it is.
Ill decide tomorrow at the dealer if I am going to buy, or wait. Gonna depend on the numbers at this point. I have the luxary of being able to wait if I have to.

Done about 17000 miles towing and 8000 miles without the rig in the last 18 months, 2011 3500 Ram Diesel.

Towing 5th wheel +-9000lbs I get 12-13mpg at 55mph and without rig daily driving 17-19mpg on the open road 20-23mpg 65-55mph.

One time though with a strong wind on the quarter we only got 9mpg that day!

Happy that I don't have to fill with DEF does the 2013 Ram need DEF?

yeah, the RAM 2013 does, thats why im looking to get it now. You have the best numbers I have heard yet. I guess I will just have to buy one and see for myself.

Last time I bought a diesel it was easy, mileage was so much better than gas. Boy, has that changed.

Thats emmissions for you.

I can confidently get 13mpg but that is sticking to 55mph and only going faster on the downhills and accelerating moderately from standstill, stopping and starting is a killer.

BTW the engine brake is awsome coming down the Rockies at 65 without using the brakes at all is a breeze.

I know my 2007 3500, 5.9, auto, 410 rear and DRW is not the same, but I get around 12 mpg towing. My FIL with 2004 2500 5.9, auto and 373 rear, get better mpg's. Both pulling about the same weight and size TT.

To me it seams the rear gear ratio will make a big difference. If you need the 410, you will pay for it with a little less mpg's.

I do wish I had the engine brake...

i get around 10 towing and 14 around town and almost 20 solo on the highway. i drive like a old man though.
i think the 2013s now have exhaust fluid to deal with. if there isn't anything you must have, might want to consider a 12.
good luck with your choice.

That's sounds very good, Nigel. Now is that mpg using imperial gallons (4.55 L) or US gallons (3.79 L)?

kozzy, something to notice in these post, some reply's are from people who are pulling a 5er, and some from folks pulling a TT. With my 07 3500, I was getting 9-9.5 mpg's pulling the 5th wheel I had. It weighed in around 14000lbs. Now we have a TT, weighing around 8000lbs and we are getting 12.5-13 mpg's...

Less wind drag and less weight makes a big difference...
