I can beat that Max tow here with Lariat trim for some bling, and still have 1903 payload. Cutting 10" off from the cab (it's a supercab) helps save some weight.

Maximums available according to the Towing Guide as of 2-22 with the right options. Body and trim will be factors. 4x4 will be less capable.

3.5L EcoBoost V6 400 @ 6,000 500 lb.-ft. @ 3,100
Max Tow: 14,000
Max cargo: 3,250

Max towing of 14,000 lbs. available on SuperCab 8' box 4x2 and SuperCrew® 4x2 configurations with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine and Max Trailer Tow Package (not shown). Max towing varies based on cargo, vehicle configuration, accessories and number of passengers. Class is Full-Size Pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR.

5.0L Ti-VCT V8 400 @ 6,000 410 lb.-ft. @ 4,250
Max Tow: 13,000
Max cargo: 3,325

Max payload of 3,325 lbs. on Regular Cab 8' box 4x2 with 5.0L gas engine and Max Trailer Tow and Heavy-Duty Payload Packages (not shown). Max payload varies and is based on accessories and vehicle configuration. Class is Full-Size Pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR.

Note the 3.5 V6 is more capable than the 5.0 V8 according to this data.

It is funny that a business like Les Schwabs would suggest it.

However, I bet the payload capacity is set fairly conservatively. I’m curious what a Ford engineer would say the plus or minus was on that.

It is ridiculous that Ford publishes their towing capacity based on a 2x4, single cab, longbed.
Sir you need to educate yourself on payload/towing ratings.

Ford has 3 frame thicknesses for the F150...all 3 have a different GVWR. (if the thinnest frame was so conservative why would Ford bother with making some thicker with higher ratings?)

SAE J2807: look it up.

There is nothing ridiculous about Ford stating the max capacity is 'X'...if you want 'X' then order 'X'...its available to you.

Like everything in life, it's about educating yourself to make good decisions.

You generally have to order them and wait. The first one I bought was actually a lucky find ( hint: have dealer search 7850 gvw package), but the second one I had to order. The hdpp forte is for someone who occasionally tows heavy, but has a long commute. My commute, every other week, is 130 miles each way.
If I didn’t have to have a daily driver and tow vehicle all in one, I would very strongly consider the Godzilla 250. I can get 24.5 mpg on my commute btw.

You might have to wait a long time.

I ordered one but cancelled the order because Ford is unilaterally deleting options that made it worthwhile to me to buy a new tow vehicle. Without those options, I get more payload but am otherwise not much better off than with my 2016 5.5' Lariat, and my payload is adequate for my trailer.

I tried to get one of these unicorns when I purchased my truck and was told that I could not order one; they were supposedly only available in Canada

I just built this F150 XL 8' Supercab w/HDPP and 3.5L EB on the Ford.com (not Ford.ca) site.

https://shop.ford.com/configure/f150...98.774.U11.%5D

Other than HDPP, which required MaxTow, the only option I selected was trailer mirrors, which required the XL High trim package. Even that may detract from the maximum payload, compared to XL Low w/o trailer mirrors, but it would be close.

Note that 2022s can no longer be ordered and the order banks for 2023 open tomorrow, 7/18. Whether that means the web build & price tool will be available to try out different versions, I do not know.

Also, the calculated payload is not shown in the build tool, so you don't know what you're getting, in that regard. It's not even on the window sticker, to my knowledge. The best you can do is build a stripped-down 8' Supercab with HDPP.

Just because some piece of paper says a truck can pull x - i look at it a bit different - is my life, wife life, grandkids worth taking a chance that its ok?

Hell no - i have 22 denali diesel hd to pull my 10 k trailer. - but when you add all there crap you take, dogs, extra stuff in there bed, etc why cut it that close? And really if your pulling a trailer does 10mpg or 14 mpg really matter that much?
And did you read that the hp rating and torque is at 3-4K rpm? my diesel very rarely goes about 1800 and its a stump puller. No thanks on any 1/2 pulling anything but a motorcycle/ gator tailer.

The order banks opened today (7/18) for F150s. I read online, but have not corroborated from a reputable source, that Ford now offers the HDPP only with an XL. You can't even get an XLT.
