No, Ford is building the Amarok for VW. There is no joint partnership where VW will have anything to do with the engineering or manufacturing of the Ranger. If Ford building a truck for VW outside of North America is a problem for you, well...

pulled from "the Drive" article
--Whether these trucks' powertrains will be supplied by Ford, Volkswagen, or a mixture of both is not yet certain, nor is which drivetrains will be available in the United States.

https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...xt-ford-ranger

It’s all largely speculation right now anyway, no need to write off the 2022 so soon.

I still can't believe they have more payload than most 1/2 tons.

I tow a Wolf Pup 18RJB with the Colorado ZR2 V6. It does really well. I bought the truck before the trailer, and if I had it to do over, I'd get the Diesel.

Not sure how that helps the OP, who wants information specific about the Ford Ranger.

Literally the first sentence of the OP:

I plan to purchase in 2021 either a new Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado or the soon to be released Nissan Frontier.

Sure, but the title of the thread and the actual questions in the original post are asking specifically for personal experience with the Ranger. They probably gleaned they info they needed about the other trucks already and didn’t want this thread to turn into a this vs that thread.

I would like feedback from the new Ford Ranger owners who tow in real world situations. Do they think the 4 cyclinder turbo engine will hold up with years of use? Have Ranger owners towed 5,000 - 6,000 lbs going through the mountains?

Yep, that's better than my F150 3.5 EcoBoost with the Max Tow package. It's 1828lbs.
