new hitch concern

my trailer level is 17 in. to top inside of coupler and my receiver is 20in. from ground to top of inside of hole. equalizer says I need a 9 in. drop shank which is about 13in long. when I put it in the receiver I will have about 5-6 in. of ground clearance from the bottom of the shank. is this going to be a problem or will I be okay to drive. CONFUSED, CONCERNED. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
Ken

with the trailer level If the top of the coupler is seventeen inches then the top of the hitch ball when inserted in the receiver of your hitch should be at close to 19 inches. You can figure the drop you will need from that.

Seadog is about right. With those measurements you only need about an inch or so of drop. You want the ball to be slightly higher than the coupler on the TT, so when the TT is placed on the ball and you let the weight onto your hitch the truck is going to drop a little and the ball being higher will compensate for some of that drop.

At least this is how i've always set mine up and it works for me.

all true. but the ball is 3inches and sits on top of the equalizer head which is about 6 inches. if I did not have the wd hitch I would be good to go, however my concern is the ground clearance to the bottom of shank. I don't have pictures because I'm not sure I want the recommended shank. I know it is not a good explanation of what's going on, I just don't know how else to explain it.

With the 7 inch drop the ball sits at 22 inches. and the squat is horrendous.

What WDH are you using and how much is the vehicle squatting when you drop the tongue on it ?

You must have very soft suspension on the tv for that kind of squat the tongue weight of your rig is around 800 or so. some of that squat will be taken care by the WDH bars I would go with 1K bars. Also with the very long shank you get the head of the wdh set and then cut the excess off the bottom of the shank to provide clearance. I did this with my WDH shank.

using the equalizer 4pt. 1200/12000. the ram does have the coil springs which are a bit soft, thinking of bump stops or air bags. ordered the 90-02-4400 shank and will see how it goes. thanks for the input. wish me luck or winning lottery numbers.

Well the hitch worked fine. The new shank is too long(just as I suspected) so I'm sending it back. the truck sits level but I can feel the soft rear suspension. So I guess my choices are increase suspension or bump stocks or airbags.

Mine was long like the one you got so I cut it off about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the WDH which solved the clearance issue give that some thought cheaper then suspension.

I read that earlier, but the shank still sat just less than 5 inches from the ground, so if I cut 2inches off the clearance still gave me concern.
