New Silverado Dually

I sure wish I could talk DW into buying a new truck. A dually would be nice. Does a dually ride good when not towing?

My 2011 Silverado DRW ride is comparable to the 2008 2500 I had previously. No complaints!

I'm pretty sure you complained lots about your emissions, deleted your current truck, and now you're looking at getting a new truck with emissions again?

I could be wrong, but I believe I read that the new Duramax is considered uncrackable, and can't be tuned if you have problems again. Obviously that changes with time, but a lot of tuners weren't going to bother attempting right away.

I think a diesel shop can strip off the emissions and should I buy a new dually or a new SRW the emissions will be the first thing I get rid of

Unfortunately this will not be the case. The emissions you want to strip off are all integrated into the system controlling the engine and transmission. If someone starts pulling emission devices off of the truck, the engine, at a minimum, will start throwing CEL's or possibly go into limp mode or worse not even start.

Read one of the Duramax websites (dieselplace.com or duramaxforum.com) about the new LP5 engines. They have not been able to crack the ECU, only mods are to add a plug in tuner with the emission devices still intact.

With that said, I'm eyeing the new MY '20 HD Silverado's. I am contemplating a dually but the wife isn't too crazy about the idea. Time will tell....

I had seen some youtube videos from Ray Love you RV. He got a new RAM (Blue 2) single rear wheel looks great and he said it'll tow 17000 lbs. Not sure what towing capacity you need. I have a duramax dually. If I ever need to buy a new truck I'm going to consider all makes. The price of a new dually is ridiculous

Duramax L5P uncrackable? We have heard this before. I say give it a little time, and there will be a whole new delete kit and tuner for L5P. The sky is not falling

As far as ride comfort of DRW vs SRW 1 ton, not enough difference to affect a buying decision between the two, especially in the newer trucks.

Getting back to the question. Dually trucks ride rough compared to a 1/2 ton. Compared to a single wheel 3/4 ton it is a little rougher ride. I like my dually for several reasons, mainly the stability (32' TT) and zero stress when towing. Other reasons are: Other drivers don't usually pull out in front of you and want to get out of your way.

We went from a 2016 F250 FX4 Crew Cab, 6 1/2 bed 10,000 GVW , to a 2018 F350 DRW FX4 Crew Cab and the difference is night and day. The new truck is so quite and smooth riding. Even without towing it’s smooth + I have almost 50 gal of fuel In the standard tank. Only draw back is parking.

Your comment in the comparison listed does not quite agree with what you said here. With the air lift I found my truck to ride so much better than my Chevy 2500 I would think yours would do the same. Later RJD

I thought I said the same. Unloaded, I’m not crazy about it.

That unloaded ride, though… I had read about people claiming 1-ton trucks beating you up. With the 2012, it rode well; I mean it was a truck, but it was never uncomfortable. With the 2018, it’s pretty rough a lot of the time. Loaded (and especially with the Trailer Saver air-ride hitch), it’s much tamed and almost pleasant to ride in.

For what it's worth, I'm running 35psi in the rears on mine unloaded. It's tolerable at that pressure. Interesting to hear that the air suspension doesn't smooth it out more.

We have a 2016 GMC Denali DRW and the unloaded ride is rough in my opinion. Not horrible, but certainly firm.

Yeah, we tow a lot and I’m super lazy. But once we stay somewhere 2 weeks, I’ll have to try dropping it down. You go the whole way to 35psi?

I hear ya. If my tradesman steelies didn't have openings big enough for my hands to reach both valves without removing the wheels I wouldn't either. But I ended up using the 3500 as a daily for a 5 week trip for work when my old Ford got sick. Put about 4000 miles on it with the low pressures in the rear with seemingly no issues. I still run 80 in the fronts. If I had the aluminum wheels I'd probably go with a set of valve stem extenders to bring them both to the outside.

What about the tpms light? I agree that the stiff ride would drive some people crazy but for me if I had a newer truck It would drive me nuts having the warning light on when aired down.

The beauty of the 3500 dually. No low pressure tpms warning. I'm not sure if it's the same on the srw 3500.

My 08 2500 would flag the light if it was that low. I have to relearn every rotation.
