New truck

I am upgrading from a GMC Sierra 1500 to a RAM 2500. Besides measuring from the ground to the receiver ball on the old truck and getting the new to match it, is there anything else that I need to do? Will I have to go through the process of setting up the WDH again?

Simple answer most likely. My first TT was 36’ hitch to bumper almost 10k fully loaded back then I always traveled ( at least from house with full fresh water) my first tow vehicle was 2500 Ram 2 wheel drive 6.7. Barely new trailer was there even when trailer was bouncing between the lines any time I went over 68. So I got equalizer 4pt. No sway problem solved, bought a 2014 Tundra first 400 miles ok but wind was crazy . So next morning before second leg of trip I moved hitch up 1 or 2 holes ( I don’t know why and I got lucky it was the sweet spot finished western us trip no problems. When I moved to F 150 I didn’t need any adjustments but when I went to F 350 I needed to drop and flip. That said I never once added or subtract a washer. So I should probably delete but my one finger pecking deserves a post

I just upgraded from a Toyota Tundra to a Ram 2500 and I need to either buy a new hitch or new shank for my existing E2 as the Ram is several inches higher and I cannot drop my ball mount low enough.

The short answer is yes or you should. These trucks have different suspension and to get things right you should start from square one with setup and make sure your weight transfer and stance are correct it only takes a few minutes and a little measuring. good luck

Got the same issue with my incoming 2022 F150.

I took a measurement from level ground to top of my hitch on current Silverado 1500 and took measurement of camper ball receiver on level ground.

Will get that same hitch measurement with new truck.

Should be able to get close with these measurements and then adjust if necessary.

My Curt WDH should have enough adjustment for new truck.

This may not be an issue for most trailers, but I will point it out. I just got a new Ram 2500 last year and am still just pulling a popup until I get a bigger trailer in the future. Anyways, as you know, that truck is really high and I measured and got an 8" drop to accommodate the trailer just two days before I took it on a camping trip. I am glad I did it two days before instead of the day before because when I went to hook it up, the cable for the lights was too short! With the plug above the bumper, it is way up there! This is probably just an issue because I had such a big drop, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

Not a problem with my TT but I had to replace the cable on my 16' utility trailer for the same reason. Fortunately I also discovered it about a week before I needed to use that trailer. Previously all my tow vehicles had the wiring socket mounted below the bumper.

Again probably yes. I had to get a new tow bar, due to the height difference.. But you might be surprised that you do not need a WDH. I have yet to find that I need to install mine and it has been fours.

Also keep in mind the Sierra has a 2” Class IV while your Ram 2500 should have a 2.5” Class V
