New Truck

Meet "Beast" as DW has so endearingly named her.

We had a few issues with our EcoBoost and had to fight like hell with Ford, just for them to turn around and NOT cover things under warranty. Instead of fighting them forever we decided it was time to move on. Despite their advertisement it does not look like the EB can do what they say for very long. So after 2 radiators and the cooling system building too much pressure we have moved on.

2014 Ram 2500 Tradesman 5.7L/4.10. Looking forward to seeing the difference in towing experience.

likey likey..though my tow is the little sister. I hear your plight on the eb. Some guy touting how wonderful it is on another thread. I don't know...a tiny little 3.5 twin turbo'd to squeeze as much juice out of it. Wanted to right back, "what will you be replacing it with in 2 years?"

I loved the power of the EcoBoost, don't get me wrong. It probably works for plenty of people, there was no disputing that it did NOT work for me. I am loving the 2500. The ride is a bit rougher than my F150 but as my buddy says "your backside will get used to it and your knuckles will keep their color while towing"

the same engine minus the twin turbos powers my wife's Lincoln quite well. It's just to me if you max tune out an engine just to make it equal to the hp of a mild v8, you're better off with the v8. Unless you don't do much towing. If the vehicles life is grocery getter and to look good, why not get the better gas mileage with the 6.

There are actually lots of us. My parents have had one since for 3 years now and they have pulled everything from gooseneck cattle trailers to travel trailers to flatbed trailers and so on. I'll take my chances with an ecoboost rarely if ever having to rev over 3k rpm while towing to a V8 catching gears and hitting 4500 on every incline. Revving like that and catching gears is hard on everything from your rotating assembly to you valve train to your transmission.

Hmm, never thought of those issues when I sold my 2002 v8 Durango after towing for 8 years and 150k miles. Or my 2008 v8 Durango for 5 years and 102k miles. Must be all the down hills in New England that keep the rpm's low.

Nice truck! Right color and everything. I opted for the Cummins, because I'm going to a bigger trailer, soon.

Given that I just bought the trailer in March and DW LOVES the interior layout and colors I was pretty confident I won't be replacing this on anytime soon.

Have towed trailers over 70,000 miles the last 8 yrs with a 5.3L Silverado and NEVER even got close to 4500 rpm in the Appalachian, Ozark or Smokey mountains.

Nice truck! I keep toying with trading my Ecoboost, which has been great for over 50,000 miles, for a Ram 2500 diesel just cause they look so good.

Unfortunately, my EB was over 3k on most inclines

nice looking dodge truck, enjoy!

My 09 6.0 does one heck of a job towing. Only one time did I come close to 4500 rpm in back hills of Kentucky. (That's a other story)

You will love your new Dodge truck. We have the same truck and pull our 30 foot Chapparal 5er. It is a pleasure to tow with our Dodge.

You have noted that you allow the truck to just slow as you go up inclines. If you want to maintain speed you WILL have to rev a naturally aspirated V8 engine to get to it's peak torque, which is in the low 4K range on most of them. Anyone towing with a V8 that is willing to be honest knows that.

The more you post the less inclined I am to believe some of the stuff you are spouting. I pulled our new 2015 Puma 31RDKS home from Ohio, around 1300 miles by the time we ventured to campgrounds, etc. Camper weighs in at 7952 per yellow sticker, putting me in the low 9K range loaded. That entire trip I ran in 4th- had 5th and 6th locked out- at 65mph while on interstates. With 3.55 gears that puts me turning around 2700-2800 RPM. I NEVER had to drop a gear, even on some descent grades coming through Kentucky. The longest, steepest grade I encountered had me losing 3 mph to 62 and never dropping a gear even with the cruise set. I now run in 5th on the flats and it catches 4th on most inclines. My testimony is very similar to everyone else that has actually owned and towed with the Ecoboost.

So far my 2014 Ram Laramie Longhorn Cummins 6.7 pulls my XLR 415amp like a dream. I've got the speed limit alert set on the Navigation system for 10mph over the speed limit. I'm always being reminded that the "speed limit is 65mph". I've been avg'ing 13-14 mpg on mileage.

Not that I am overly concerned with what someone believes on an internet forum but if you look at my posting history you can go back and see pictures of my EB hooked up to my Surveyor. You'll also see that for a long time I was a big advocate of the engine. As of recent weeks and fighting with Ford to honor a warranty on their cooling system at 28k miles I am pretty open that I have become very sour on Ford and the EcoBoost. By the way genius, where do you think the FX2 part of my moniker came from? I have also said that others experience may very, my experience was that it did not live up to the hype and I have the bank account that paid for the bad experiment.
