New TV

2018 RAM 2500 Laramie 6.7. Honestly, I was sad to see the Ford go but need something other than gas and couldn't pass up the leftover\end of the month deals.

Finally bought the truck I've been dreaming of. Can't wait to tow. Love this forum and all I've learned from it!!

Just parked the fiver last night.

Our 2016 Ram diesel just does its job easily.

Mileage towing #15,000 was 12 on an easy tow to Kentucky.

Set the cruise on 65 and relax. Life in the slow lane.

You will like your truck. The DW is the primary driver except when towing. She is a confirmed truck person.

If this is your first diesel they are a little different.

That sudden diesel smell is the def system getting itself right if you are not using the truck enough on the highway.

First time you max the truck out in the mountains the engine will sound like a jet taking off. That is the max cooling fan settting that almost never comes on.

Learn to change fuel filters yourself.

Because fuel filters need to be replaced pretty often. You will find yourself in the middle of nowhere one day with your truck in limp mode with no warning. Generally, fuel filters are pretty accessible and easily replaced on the side of the road. You need the spare diesel to fill your new filter with or you may not be able to get the fuel system to prime.

I have the 2017 6.7, it has more power than I will ever need. I dont think I have taken it past 1/2 the distance on the throttle pedal. Im very happy with it, Makes towing a dream.


Being a old Ford guy I do miss the engine clatter of the 7.3 but otherwise I love my Ram.
Congrats I think you will enjoy it for a very long time!

The fuel filter has a gage so suddenly running out of capacity is silly.

Not sure the truck goes into limp mode on the filter. You could reset the gage if necessary.

Ram trucks have twice the filter capacity of other trucks. Two instead of one. So pushing the limits should not be an issue.

Ram dealers charge a rediculous $450 to change filters yearly. They cost $95 on Amazon and take less than an hour to change by a half crippled 70 year old.

Do this yourself and the maintenance cost of the diesels goes way down. Just two oil changes per year for the first 100,000 miles.

I only change mine in the fall and it usually still has over 50% life left on it. I could probably get 1.5 years out of a filter.

My opinion is based on my experiences with Chevrolet/Duramax trucks I have owned from my first, bought in 2004 to my last, bought in 2014. I have no experiences with Dodge diesel trucks, but assumed they would be similar in this aspect.

I suppose it could a fuel quality issue. All of my diesels have been fueled-up mainly at Hess/Speedway throughout their lives.

My 2014 GMC has the in dash monitor for both the fuel/oil filter estimated life remaining. does your's have that Bruce ? It will warn you if any water is detected in the filter, but I don't think it goes into Limp mode...the DEF will if it gets too low.
