Newer Ram 2500 Tires on 20" Michelin's?

Hi All-

I know that there are a few here with the new Gen Ram trucks with the 20" wheel option. It has come time in 38K short miles to replace the tires on my truck with new hoops. Honestly, the OEM Firestones stink. They in my opinion wore poorly and litterly had half the tread gone in 20K miles. I will not be buying those again. My question is....has anyone replaced these yet and what did you go with? The factory tire size is a weird one and it seems the only other choice for this size is the Michelin Defender LTX at nearly 350 per tire. Any one have these tires on their TV? Your thoughts and opinions please?

The old saying "you get what you pay for" goes for tires too. Specially when towing. Michelin is a good tire, Nittos , Toyo and Cooper are a good tire as well . I run Toyo 20" AT2 on my Ram.

Tires

I run Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx on my truck. very little highway noise, and look great. I think they have a 60k mile warranty. Got mine at Discount Tire.

OEM tires always suck. Dealers buy special lots/runs on tires for a specific car or model. Search the number on the tire and it will come back specific as OEM to that manufacture. Truly a different tire from the same brad that you would find at a tire store.

I am on my second set of Toyo's 37x12.50x17 Open Countries on my lifted excursion in about 7 years and those things wear like iron. I bet I got 30k out of the last set, and I know I am near 30k on these and they are not even half worn.

Lifted truck are notorious for chewing up tires, and I cannot express how well these are wearing. My buddy with an f250 diesel has gone through 4 sets of M/T and Dick Cepek in the same time, and honestly, the only reason I have needed 2 sets is because the guy who stole my truck a while back did massive burn-outs in it. The rears were shot, but the fronts still had 10k or so miles left in them.

I have the 2014 1500 RAM with 20" 275x60R20 option. OEM's were Goodyear SRA... I have 38,000 on them, but they are nearly bald.

I got a quote from Goodyear for about $900 although I don't recall the exact tire type but it was the same size with their then $120 rebate.

Last week (late Feb) I went to Costco and got 4 of the Michelin Defender LTX installed out the door for $905 with their current $70 off a set of four. On Monday I got an email from Costco with a code that if you bought online and had them sent to the local club for install they would be $60 cheaper. I went to the club with that info and they said it was an online promo code that they could not offer. Costco costs $110 yr for membership but I think I get my money's worth in savings from that fee.

I have only had them on about 250 miles, but they already have given me better confidence. In a heavy rain yesterday I panic braked (not pulling my TT) and they stopped sure with no skid. The Goodyears I took off would lose traction leaving from a light if the pavement was wet.

PM me with your email and I will forward the costco email with the promo code... offer ends Mar 17...

I have a 2016 RAM 2500 with 18" rims. I replaced my OEM tires with Michelin Defender LT275/70R18 at 1000 miles just to feel more secure. I have about 20,000 miles on them now and they still look brand new.
I also replaced the Goodyear Marathons with G614's on my 5er at the same time. I just didn't want to risk having blowouts on the truck or 5er plus I put a TPMS TT500 on the 5er. Might be overboard but it makes me feel good.

I replaced the Goodyear Wranglers that my 2011 Ram 1500 Quad came with prior to hauling a Rockwood 2304 to Indiana for a floor/front cap replacement. The tires were 3 years old with under 30K miles and would not pass inspection. So after some research, the Michelin XLT's went on. The 275X65R 20's performed flawlessly during our trip. Incidently, this was in Oct/Nov from Nova Scotia to the Rockwood repair facility in Millersburg, IN. Nice pull through the rain, sleet and snow of eastern Canada.
The tires now have 25K miles and show little wear. They are quiet, ride well and being 8 ply have lots of strength. Up here they are a bit pricey, but well worth it.

When I put a new set of Michelin LTX's on my2013 F-250, I pulled the price up on Discount Tire Direct and printed it out. Took the add to the local Ford Dealership since they advertised they would meet any price. Their normal price was 320 per tire, but with the add, I got them mounted and balanced for $270 per tire. You might check to see if your local dealership has the same policy, then find the best price on line.

2015 RAM 3500 Big Horn 4x4 (DRW) 235 80R17

I have a 2015 RAM 3500 Big Horn 4x4 (DRW) which came with Nexen (Korean) 235 80R 17 tires. They have a 50,000 mile warranty. I have 27,000 miles and they are wearing fine. However, I do like Michelin and when comes time for replacement will use them.

Don't get too hung up on "10 ply" tires. Since bias ply nylon tires are all but a memory, no radial tires actually have 10 plys. Sidewalls on most LT radial tires are generally 2 or 3 plys, some with a steel ply. What's most important in your tire selection is the load rating...always make sure it meets or exceeds the original equipment tires that were on your truck. The last comment is just my personal opinion...the first three sentences are facts!

I replaced the BFGs that came on my F350 dually with the Michelin Defenders and couldn't be happier, I've had the Michelin before and they always wore well and behave much better on wet pavement than any other tire I've ever had on a vehicle. You won't go wrong with the Michelins, even if they are a little pricier.

Does anyone know if the Spare on the RAMs is Full Size and tow rated I haven't ever checked it out and this conversation made me think about it

Would hate to be towing and have the rear tire go flat and find that I have a crappy spare. I would check myself, but since the truck is at home and I am stuck at work trying to pay for the Gas she drinks, thought I would ask everyone here

The stock Nexen tires went 45k on my DRW. Actually rears had probably another 10k in them but the retarded factory alignment spec eat rhetoric outside edge of the fronts off.

I put a set of Cooper AT3S on it and have been happy. It's my 4th set of AT3S on 3 different trucks.
