Noisy? Equalizer Trunnion Bar Hitch 10,000 Lbs

Does anyone have one of these that can tell me how bad the noise is? many of the competing brands of hitches often say that the equalizer is noisy.
I'm trying I'm trying to decide between this Equalizer 4 and the Easylift Recurve 3.
Thx

I have an equalizer and love it. It will pop and squeal a little bit when you make turns, especially sharper ones. I wouldn't trade it for anything else, but that's just me.

Had an EQ and the Blue Ox. Loved the EQ 10X better than the Blue Ox. Blue Ox did a good job, but EQ was much better IMHO.

I use the E4 with the pads that sit on the bar perches. That and lubing the bar pivots makes mine almost completely quiet.

These help tremendously. We had squeaking problems to.
Then when I put these on, these helped really well at removing those sounds.Click image for larger version

Those jackets help, and so does completely removing the sockets for the trunnion bars and applying grease on contact surfaces. I get virtually no noise after doing that. I currently have mine apart in the shop as I'm servicing it right now so I'll try to remember to take a picture at lunch.

I need to take mine apart and clean like you did. What I do notice with my E4 is that it loosens up over time so I get my torque wrench out occasionally and tighten them to spec.

Yes, especially when new. People get concerned about the amount of sway control after greasing the various points mentioned in the manual but I see no issue if I keep it torqued up.

Greasing the pivot points really cut down the noise for me

Need to stress that it's the PIVOT points that get greased and NOT the friction surfaces on the trailer end of the bars.

Lubing has always helped same hitch on 2 different trailers

Just an FYI I had the pads on my last trailer. When we upgraded our trailer in January the dealer that transferred the hitch said they do not recommend using the pads. According to them they interfere with anti sway performance. I know the manufacturer sells them.

So flip a coin I guess

I have set of the pads, took them off hitch works better without them. Someone wants them, pay for shipping they are yours.

I purchased the sway bracket jacket because of all the noise made when turning. Problem solved.

Forgot to take a pic at lunch but here you go. Taking it apart to get the grit that builds up in there and regrease makes a big difference in noise.

IMHO if my bars are creaking and moaning at slow speeds and hard turns, I know they’re doing their job.

To each there own. The manual says to grease it there and I prefer to not sound like the Clampetts pulling into a campground. Grease shouldn’t affect weight distribution and if it slightly affects the sway control, I don’t need sway control with our setup. In fact we didn’t have any with our first (Curt) hitch and made it around the Rockies with no issue.

When we had our Equilizer 4 hitch installed, the old mechanic said, "Noise is your friend with these hitches." We did put the pads on ours to cut down on the noise after some campground hosts expressed concern. The pads helped with the noise and didn't notice any sway control issues with our 30' SOB.
