I have never liked the eco boost.
If you are going to buy a truck, then buy one!

Man I know how it feels to buy from a bad dealer. I know a lot guys love their Eco Boosts. I test drove one as an alternative to a Tundra just to be a smart shopper. 28 mpg? No way, but they do get good mileage for a 1/2 tonner.

Well, this guy is discredited because NONE of them are rated for 28 mpg. 22 mpg for 2WD and 21 mpg for 4WD. My summer average over 3,000 miles has been 20.3 mpg in mixed suburban and highway driving. So go figure . . . there's always a crank out there somewhere!

My last company truck was a Ford is a 2002 F-150 (7700 series 4X4). It is still being driven in Amarillo with over 340,000 miles on it, with NO major repairs. However, I didn't buy an Eco-Boost, either. What I got, I like. I get an average of 19.5 MPG in a mixed city/hiway scenario. I bought a basic XLT truck with the 5.0 V-8 engine. Overall I am very happy with it. 28 MPG...Really!?!? Maybe the new diesel 1/2 tons will do that well, or nearly so, if they ever actually release them for sale. I have several friends with the Eco and their mileage is very similar to mine... and I don't have the complexity issues of turbo-charging. I probably don't have the power they do, but I have all I need.

Transport Canada ratings are imperial gallons...4.55 liters.
The commericals for Ram in Canada quote 36 mpg.

i've never seen that anywhere. the guy made a big mistake if he didn't check that claim out.

Dumb question, and if you can't answer without being a you-know-what, then pass on. So my question: I assume, when towing, those turbos run constantly. Does that produce a lot of heat? Also, say, on a truck that's over 5 year old, how does that hold up on wear and tear? I realize the second part of my question is nearly impossible to answer as the Eco Boost has only been around for 2-3 years. But I have always wondered about how well the turbos would hold up after they got some age and mileage on them. What are other thoughts?

My f250 had dual turbos when at speed and on cruise I push very little boost.
And yes turbos can get red hot when worked hard so heat is an issue.

There is a general law of Thermo Dynamics where formulas are used to compute the required fuel source input (BTU) to generated the needed horsepower to move a load X at speed X for X amount of distance.
ie. It takes a lot of gas to get a loaded truck down the road at highway speeds.

I've got to tell you, so far I do like my Eco! I did really like my Tundra, it was trouble free and did everything I asked of it, and did it well!
But, my Eco is much smoother, quite, and pulls my TT Soooooooooo much better! For now, my camping trips are all within a days drive, we try to do six a year, so I'm towing 12 days a year. The Eco is perfect for our needs.
Someone did not do their home work on the MPG! I can't imagine the F-150 with the most car like gearing getting that MPG!
