Ordered Basic Tow Vehicle - Ford F150 XL V8
If anyone is interested, my basic tow vehicle will be here soon. Window sticker photo link attached.
Basic.........I mean basic...........even has vinyl flooring!
Overkill for my small camper........but, it should pull anywhere and should handle any upgrade that I can afford.

Congrats. Not overkill at all. I use it to tow my 20' single axle GeoPro. Needed a truck that could handle my 700-800 lb tongue weight. I'm very glad I got the V8.
If I ever go bigger, it will be a small toyhauler, and I'll have to upgrade from F150 I think.
I can't read most of window sticker, resolution is bad.

Good thing it has the 10 speed with that 3.31 gear ratio. I hate the 10 speed (both GM and Ford, same thing) but the broader gear range makes up for some shortcomings. I think you would be better served with the 3.5 Ecoboost and Max Tow/HDPP combo, especially with the XL. Please don't start about 3.5TT issues. The new 'coyote' has lots of issues also. Everything has issues. Consider the millions of vehicles out there without issues. Only hear about the ones with.

Agree with this (although I haven’t had any issues with the 10 speed). It’s amusing how people will go on about “complicated” turbos and the “simplicity” of the V8 as if turbos haven’t been around forever or as if any engine today isn’t complicated!
OP, your F150 will pull that camper with ease! We had a similar sized camper we were pulling with a mid-sized 6 cylinder suv, which was barely adequate. When we purchased our F150 I had my very first experience of towing a camper “like it wasn’t there”.
Our F150 has been trouble free so far. The only thing that broke recently was the passenger side mirror stopped adjusting via the power adjust. I took this as a sign and a perfect opportunity to upgrade to the factory tow mirrors, which I had my eye on anyway.

Good point, and what’s the first thing we do with the carpet? Cover it up with all-season rubber mats! Might as well go right for the rubber flooring in the first place.

The carpet does give a bit of thermal and sound insulation.
These days the flooring goes with the whole package.
Want the sliding rear window? You have to take a lot of other extras to get that package.
I will say that having gone through the truck buying process last summer, stripped work trucks seem to be the easiest to find. Especially in white.

Congrats! Sounds like a great truck. You're probably better off w/o carpet if you're going to put in some good mats. So when does it get here? I couldn't read the sticker- too small and no tools to enlarge it. Am I doing something wrong?

Personally, I like as many high tech gizmos as I can get in my truck. If I'm going to spend days to weeks in there towing my camper around, I want to enjoy the drive as much as possible.

My Ram is also Tradesman model basic, nothing much for options except carpeting. No geewiz gizmos to break or fail.

Cooled seats were a nice feature out in Arizona last August. Too bad my new truck only has heated seats.

Good truck to buy if you ask me. I too found it less expensive and easier to find a work truck to tow my RV when I was in the market for one three years ago. Since it's my secondary vehicle, not having tons of options on it was no big deal for me. Since I got it, I installed several options that didn't come on mine.
The seats and floors are all vinyl on mine too, and its certainly not as plush as those with fabric and carpeting. We camp at the beach most of the time and have our dog in the back seat a lot. For us, the vinyl is much more practical, holds up good to the abuse it gets, and is much easier to clean up. After a beach trip with the dog, all I need to do to clean up is open all four doors, fire up the lawn blower, and sand and dog hair are gone in an instant. Very little vacuuming, if any, is needed.

My 2017 with the HDPP is an XLT, but doesn't have carpet on the floor either. I don't mind the vinyl floors as I travel out to drilling rigs and the mud can get pretty thick out there, especially that Alberta gumbo. Has the power seats and a back up camera though, and the tailgate step (this I love).

Last year decided to go small and simple. Our solution is a Minnie Winnie (3500 lbs) and Ford Ranger (7500 tow capacity) TV.
Only absolute requirements... No slides +/- 20' long and two axles.

Yeah, my F-350 didn't have a tailgate step either in an XL package. However, I dropped my fiver on my truck bed rails this past summer after the pin wasn't secured in my Companion hitch It completely crushed the tailgate.
I eventually replaced the factory tailgate with a new one with the integrated step. Love this option too.

We upgrade from a 17ft trailer to a 25ft Toy Hauler, NOBO 19.1. I did have a OJ Special "Big Bronco" with the 351 v8 at 220 HP is towed the 17 footer no problem but we were at the limit, because I was always flooring it. I bought a 1/2 ton Nissan Titan Pro-4x with the 330HP v8 and 400 ft lbs of torque. It was if the 17 foot Casita trailer didn't even exist. I almost could not even tell I was towing anything. So the 25 ft NOBO is 3x weight at about 6k lbs and the Titan tows it NO PROBLEM, and I use the tow mode. I get 15 MPG without the trailer and about 9 MPG with the trailer. I got about 12 MPG wit the 17 footer at about 2500 lbs.
So one thing I did and was a good upgrade and I suggest it. The single axle trailer and now with the 25 foot NOBO was sway and tongue load.
I installed the Husky Centerline TS load leveling and sway control hitch and also the Prodigy Proportional Brake controller and WOH! What a difference. Worth every penny. It drives more like a car now. Consider these options if sway or tongue load is really high and its bogging down the back of the truck. I also have helper springs and thats just not enough for a toy hauler at about 900 lbs tongue weight.

One of the selling points for me on the F-250 was the integrated tailgate step. I'll never buy another truck without it.
