Overweight!

Saw this at a truck stop while I was refueling. Holy smokes! The dry pin weight on that five’r is at least 2,0000 pounds. No F-150 is spec’d for that high GAWR, GVWR or GCWR. If that guy loses control and hurts someone, their lawyers will look at the door jam sticker and see dollar bills.

That 5er has a dry weight of 9125, pin weight of 2075, and GVW of 15,250. If empty there are F150s that could haul it. I found a F150 with a max tow at 13,200 and a max payload of 3200. Of course there is still a GCVW to have the final figures. With no cargo and a without a toy in the garage that truck may be able to tow that. I wouldn't, but I tend to be more conservative with GCVWs and towing max.

Those weights are for a reg cab 4x2 8' bed. That guy/gal in the photo is over weight period.

Come on guys...ya all know that you could hook that up to a 4 banger Ford Ranger. No problem at all. Might squish the rear tires a bit, but it wouldn't hurt the runnin of it!!!

According to the 2018 Ford towing chart for fifth wheels, the 4X4SCREW can tow up to 10,600 (the 13k figure is for conventional towing). The setup pictured could be within mfg spec unless actual weights and truck accessories can be deduced from the photograph.

I did say "may" be able to. Unless someone knows exactly how that truck is built and exactly how the 5er is configured no one could say for sure. I believe I also gave a bunch of other caveats. I also said I would not no matter. I also believe I was responding to the original post saying "NO" F150 is spec'd for that camper. Yes....yes...I do believe that is what I was saying.

You are correct. I meant to say no F-150 crew cab.

His RV salesman told him, "Oh, sure; your 1/2 ton can pull this 5ver!"

The sad part is he thinks he’s fine because truck can pull it no problem. You know there saying “that’s all that matters, it can pull it”. And there is a bunch of clowns out there with that mentality pulling a camper overweighted. Hope he doesn’t hurt someone

I will just take a guess here but I am thinking that F250 or F350 in the pic on the left is the real puller of that 5ver? Just a guess here.

Could be a dealer or transporter moving stock (empty) to another location?

3.5 Ecoboost is rated to tow as much as 11,700 lbs with a 5th wheel in the Crew Cab configuration and a GCWR of 17,000 lbs.

I would guess that this guy is overweight. But, if he packed light, didn't have anything in his bed, had no passengers, didn't have anything in the toy hauler part of the 5er, and had the properly setup XL trim and Max Tow ... maybe.

If that trailer starts at 11,200 and ~19% of that is on the hitch/truck (per the above spec), then carry that forward with 1,000 lbs of other stuff. Assume the trailer weighs 12,200. 19% of that goes against payload - 2,300 lbs. The remaining 9,900 lbs are being towed. With the max payload package on a 2WD XL/XLT low-optioned truck, this will actually meet the payload rating. The tow rating is good. And, the GCW is probably right at 17,000 lbs and is within ratings.

It's not impossible for that to be within spec. Not at all probable, but not impossible.

That has to be an old picture since that guy blew the 5.0L engine in the truck last June. Replaced it with a 1 ton DRW.
