P2 or P3
Who has which brake controller. Is there a huge difference between the two. There is a $50 dollar difference between the two which wouldn't be a big deal if the P3 is that much better. Thanks for any input.

The difference is in the display. The p3 has a little better diagnostics as well. Both are good controllers. Check on ebay because we found a p3 on there for around $110 plus additional $15 for nissan wiring harness ( old tow vehicle).

I really like the P3...if it's only a $50 difference for a device that you'll have for many years...splurge

When it's not being used towing my trailer, I keep my P3 running as an alternator voltage monitor.
Very easy set-up, too.
Sorry, but I can't compare it to an older one, as you asked.

I have had both and I think that the P3 is smoother in brake application than the P2. JMO

I have the P2, ordered it from Etrailer.com and installed it myself. Hooked up the trailer and set it last year. Haven't had to do anything to it yet.

P3 is suppose to be $50 better.
I bet it has the same chip and only gives you more info on the screen.
You never told us what you are pulling?
If you have a large trailer or 5th wheel 12,000 lbs or more get the P3
If you are like most with smaller trailers get the P2
If you are rich and don't care... Have someone deliver your trailer to the campsite and fly in by plane and have a limo pick you up and take you to the campsite.

P2 is all you need. You have a super light tow.
Your truck weighs about 5,625 without fuel, cargo or people.
So I figure it would be 6,000 lbs to 6,500 lbs loaded
Your trailer weighs the same with stuff in it around 7,000 lbs
Your truck max pulling weight is 9,000 lbs
Bottom line you are still good with a P2

They are all great controllers, only wish I had Iggy's money. You can not not go wrong with either, just more bells and whistles, just like the I phone !!!!!!!

Thanks guys think I will probably go with the P2. And it's nice they already have a Toyota harness for it for 11 bucks. Can't beat that either.

That same $11 harness also fits the P3.

P3 still fits in the cubby in the centre dash that the P2 will fit. I had a chance to borrow a P3 for a couple tows. The extra features are nice for sure, and I like if something goes wrong, the screen will flash red to get your attention. (trailer plug wasn't quite locked in and after an hour wiggled loose and triggered the warning)
If you like the extra info, (system voltage, brake current/voltage) the P3 is nice, but it worked just as well as my P1. I do like the button placement better on the P3 tho

We use the P3 in our Sequoia and really like it. We had a cheaper one and the difference is night and day.

I'm very happy with my P2. A vast improvement over my old fixed value controller.
