Parking TT/TV for a few days- ok or unhook?

We just picked up our TT and have it parked in the street( wheels chocked) for three days until we can move it to storage. Is it ok to just park and chock the wheels/leave it hooked up? Will this stress the 14k Equalizer ? The street is a slight grade.
Thanks for any help

I wouldn't be worried about the hitch. Id be worried about it getting hit or pissing of your neighbors.

Congrats on your new TT. I'd be worried about both being gone when you get up in the morning. Max theft deterrence would be my focus.

I might put the tongue down a little just to get some weight off the TV.

The amount of stress you are putting on the setup is significantly less than when you are driving. If you are thinking about the bars deforming, figure with no movement it would months, if not years.

If concerned, you can lower tongue jack to remove some of the weight.

Depending on your TV make/yr, you may want to disconnect the Bargman Connector. Some TV will leave the 12V aux line connected and can discharge TV battery if left long enough.

Leaving them connected won't hurt anything at all.

Just check your local ordinances as you could possibly get a parking ticket.

If I lived in a community where theft of truck and trailer parked for a night or so in front of my house was a great risk, I'd have sold the house and moved years ago.

Most Cities, Towns, and HOA's have a 72 hour parking limit for RV's on street in front of houses. It's also pretty standard that a 10' traffic lane be maintained on same side of painted center line.

In my City, you have to leave truck and trailer connected while parked on the street. Patrol officers will cite disconnected trailers, here anywhere.

As for the original question, load on vehicle just sitting there is a lot less strenuous than driving 60+ Mph down the average highway with potholes, expansion joints, and bridge transitions. Those "jolts" can put far greater strains on the vehicle than just sitting. They were designed for those loads anyway.

I wouldn't store the two that way but for a few days, even a week, no big deal.

What if someone wanted to borrow your truck in the middle of the night. They'd have to take everything.

unhook

Remember to unhook the electrical cord or you will run the TT battery down and your pickup battery down.

Only thing I'd be worried about is if you have HOA in your subdivision. If so I'd be checking the rules. Later RJD

I agree that leaving it hooked up won't be a problem for your truck.

I also second the suggestion to check local ordinance. In my town, we can't leave an unhitched trailer on the street.

I got my TT out of storage Friday evening so I could work on a few things. Parked in front of my house on the cul de sac street. Saturday morning I come out of my garage toward the rig and see my neighbor walking down the street with a camera. He stops across the street and starts taking pictures of my rig. I ask him what he’s doing and the response is “documenting”. Then he proceeds to lecture me about how I cannot have my rig in front of my own house EVER, which is not true. I reminded him that we had a conversation the day before about this and he said it was no problem. I also reminded him it would be back in storage Sunday. He said it had to be moved by 2 p.m. Saturday or else. I asked him if he would prefer that I park in front of his house, because I could. Then I told him I have 72 hours, so he should find something better to do on a beautiful Saturday. I got lots of things done on my rig Saturday and Sunday. Put it back in storage 3 hours ago, and it’s ready to camp next weekend.

We work hard to be good neighbors, and part of that is communicating and being reasonable despite the laws. Unfortunately, not all neighbors think alike, so I make sure to know the laws and my rights.

That is exactly why I would NEVER live with an HOA

I don’t live in an HOA, this issue has gone way beyond HOAs in many cities.

Not all trucks leave the charge wire hot when ignition off. A relay cuts power between truck and tlr battery on my truck as well as many others

Just check with test light. Diagram for charge pin is often on the cap of the truck's trailer connector receptacle.

Some brake controllers stay on when the tt is plugged into the tv. Me, I'd just unplugg it. Why risk killing the battery based off of other people's assumptions.

Thanks for all the replies! One more question, if I just want to move my TT around the driveway, can I just hook up the Equalizer without the 4 point weight distribution bars? Does it hurt anything to tow with out those bars if just going slow or if needed to maneuver out of a tight spot and having to hook / unhook more than once?
