Will never tow a trailer again!!!! 5'er is a piece of cake.....
We picked out our 5'er and then went to our truck sales person whom I trusted..
We traded from a GM 1500 to a Silverado 2500 - 6l to tow our CC 29RE

I was afraid of the answer. FW are better but there is definitely a price to pay...literally. The are bigger (not necessarily a plus for me) and can be nicer but they are more expensive and require a bigger (e.g. more expensive) truck to haul.
Not a trivial decision, that's for sure.

I ended up with a srw 3500. I didn't need the 2500 pounds of extra cargo capacity from drw and figure the srw will give better fuel mileage.

Bianchina3. For what its worth. It didn't take me long to realize that my 1/2 ton (10,300 tow cap) just couldn't comfortably or safely handle my fiver (GVWR 12,000 lbs). Went to the big guy, F-350 diesel dually crew cab 8' bed. OK, overkill for some, and Yup, its a PITA in town but its rock solid straight on the highway at max 65 mph, even when the 18 wheelers go sailing by.

If OP or anyone cares about SRW v Dually, a pro-con list might help. I have searched and not found a good P-C list, so I offer an incomplete start. At the bottom I cite a thread devoted to the question.
Dually Pro:
1-Carries more weight
2-More stability, according to some (not everyone)
3-MAYBE sudden tire failure safety advantage (maybe offset somewhat by dually-induced issues)
4-Cool "big-truck" image (perceived by some)
Dually Con:
1-Weight
2-Tire/Service Cost
3-Parking
4-Fuel economy reduction
5-Requires long bed (AFAIK)
6-Ice/Snow traction questioned by some
7-Complexity
8-In some areas, increased registration/inspection/tax etc.

To the OP - If you're thinking 5th wheelers, you'll probably want a 3/4 ton.... many of us have started out with smaller campers, then 'two-foot-itis' takes control, and next thing you know you're getting bigger campers. As for what size truck to buy, here's my experience and humble opinion: We started with a 24' TT, towing it with a 2013 Silverado CC short bed 6.0L gasser. Towed great, handled great, but the intake howl was a bother to me. Moved up to a 32' TT after one year, the truck still towed it well, but the intake howl when pulling hard was too much for me. That's on me, my hearing issues are to blame. So I moved up to a 2013 Silverado CC long bed 6.6L diesel. WHOLE new world of low effort towing. I think the added weight plus longer wheelbase of the TV had a lot to do with it. 'Two-foot-itis' has a firm hold on us, so we're planning a move to a 5th wheel in a year or so. Wifey wants a big one. I recently stumbled on a low mileage 2014 Denali HD diesel dually that I was able to get at a great price so I traded trucks. Another different world with a dually. There is a perceptible change in stability and handling to the better. We both feel the Denali rides smoother than the 2500 SRW. I think that's due to the new rear spring design. Yes, it's a pain to park. It does cost more to register. The insurance was actually cheaper than the former truck. For me, it's a mixed bag, but it's worth it. I'm blessed - my TV is also my work truck - I can write the truck off as a business expense and my company pays for it.
On final note, the Big Three all offer fine trucks, so no matter what brand, you'll have a great truck.

Speaking as someone who just traded a brand new 3/4 ton for a 1 ton - If you are thinking of buying a 3/4 ton truck, just go ahead and buy a 1 ton truck unless you know exactly what your weights are (as in, weighed at a scale.)
It's not that much more, and it will cost you significantly less than it will if you buy the smaller truck and decide to trade later. And still probably less than if you put airbags on the 3/4 ton (which only stiffens the ride, but does nothing for CCC.)
If I could go back and do it again, I'd have bought a 1 ton to begin with.

Sorry I disagree with most of your cons:
1. Weight a little more not that much.
2. Tire service cost no more than a regular pickup the rear tires last longer so the cost is not actually more for two more tires.
3. Parking is a matter of opinion
4. I get better fuel economy that any pickup that I have owned
5. Does not require a long bed there are many short bed duellys but a long bed is a plus.
6 Ice snow about the same as a regular truck
7. No more complex than a regular truck
8. Here registration costs are the same weight is the difference.

The problem can be two or three fold. For me, personally, I would NEVER tow a fifth wheel on anything less than a 3/4 ton pickup, I also have a RAM 1500 and know that there is no way that it would safely pull a 5'er. Another problem may be that you're spending all the money to upgrade, but then you have to be super concerned with weight, so you may "settle" for a unit you're not really 100% happy with. Like many other people, you are then going to upgrade the truck so you can re upgrade the 5'er and so on. With the rear coils, the Rams dont have much payload.

This is definitely the case. We want to retire to full time RVing and, unfortunately it is a few years off, and we just want to plan correctly. We have the dilemma that we want a nice RV but don't need a huge RV. We have a 26RLSS and it is plenty of room. In looking at FW the problem is there are not really any small and nice ones. Small and cheaply appointed yes but that is not what we want.
Also what is what is the deal with people everywhere trading in trucks and campers? How does everyone afford to do that? These things are expensive!!!

We have NEVER nor will ever trade in any of our vehicles or campers.
It's a ripoff for the consumer.
Just sold our used HTT for double what the dealer offered trade in on our new TT.
