There are a lot of Forrest service camp grounds along the river between Cahllis and Stanley. Most have no hook ups of any kind. We stayed at the Challis golf course and ventured out front there. Some of the back in spot at the golf course have grass and shade tree. Need to be sure and request one of those sites. Attached are pictures of where we stayed while there.

Our " Hale on Wheels "

We finally got our rig & hoping everything is ok now. Had troubles from day 1. Hoping to see members out there on the road or camping.

As a past owner of a 6.0 liter Ford I can tell you that the nightmare stories are true and they can be easily avoided. There are a couple of steps to making them extremely reliable. I haven't had a chance to watch the video posted but I'm guessing that will tell you all you need to know.

My setup...

2017 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 "Copperhead" edition
2015 Coachmen Clipper 15FL

Both purchased new in March of this year...This is my first TT (was big tent camper but got old). The 5.7 Hemi tows this like it's not even back there. BUT...I am going to put helper springs on it. It only weighs 2500-ish pounds so I've got both yes/no on the WDH. I will eventually go to one but I make sure to keep the tongue weight correct for now.

I am a Ford fan from the word go. I have had them for a long time ago. My 96 -- 7.3 was a go getter. Then 2000 --7.3 I just sold it with 353,000 miles on it & I keep in touch with the feller I sold it to & he told me he can't believe I sold it. I went thru the next few Fords they put out & wouldn't have another one. I now have a 2012 f-350 6.7 & am in Love with it ! I'm retired & really have to watch my $$$$. This is the cat's meow ! Don't want to step on any toes but the new 6.7 diesel Ford built is the one to go for ! Just my opinion.

Thumbs up Truck Upgrade

I just purchased the 2017 F350 XLT DRW while on vacation back in early July. Dropped a transmission on my old 2002 F-250 XLT Lariat with the 7.3L engine on Wolf Creek Pass. It actually didn't let go until I got through Pagosa Springs and past the Chimney Rock turnoff.

Got both towed in and received a loaner 2016 F350 from the tow company owner. Buckskin Towing is the best. I fell in love with the F350 DRW & 6.7L. Purchased one in Farmington, N.M., hooked to the 5th wheel, and pulled it home.

I really dislike that road! Been over the Pass with and without pulling. It is most fun when snow covered and pulling a 5er! My last pull was with a 35' 5er. I don't think I'll pull it again as it would be with a 43' 5er now.

I love mine even if it is a 2012. I think you will do the same. Congrats on the new rig. Be safe

Six weeks ago I posted our new Surveyor 295QBLE & our 2013 F150 5.0L. After our first trip out, I decided while on paper the F150 was staying below all of its maxs..... it was mariginally adequate. So as many of us do, putting the cart in front of the horse, we bought a new F250 to get it done right.

Funny part is I'm in the same boat. Have a less than one year old 2016 F150 Ecoboost Max tow and may be trading it in for 2017 F250 6.2 after we get back from our week vacation. Nice looking setup you have.

Thank you. You'll notice a better towing experience for sure with the F250. I think your F150 for everyday driving is much more peppy & better on gas, but for pure towing you'll be much happier with the F250.

Those points are the only reason I've been holding off. I've been more concerned about the lower MPG than the everyday day driving. I shore will miss my Ecoboost. It's like having a sports car. But family's safety comes first.

I know ya'll are probably looking at $$$ as I have to do since I am retired & live on a very strict income. I have the 2012 6.7 f-350 & so far I am getting 13.8 mpg pulling our Puma 36ft & it's at 10,000 lbs. The gas rigs are really nice but if you are going to do a lot of pulling think twice about the gas rig. It all depends on what you are pulling . Either way I have seen some great looking rigs posted. Ya'll be safe have fun, don't get in a hurry, & may the good Lord be with ya out there.

You're not the only one to have a bad experience on Wolf Creek Pass.

I had thought about future proofing myself with the diesel, but with the new TT purchase & now the F250 all in a 2 month span.... the extra 8K wasn't in the budget. Our TT is about 7K lbs loaded, so we're well within the 6.2L capabilities.
