Problem with electrical connection to toad

I'm having problems getting my electrical connection between the motorhome and towed vehicle (Jeep Wrangler) to work properly.

The MH is a 2007 Dynamax Dynaquest 340XL, with a standard 7 pin blade connector socket at the rear.

My TOAD is a Jeep Wrangler JK, using an OEM wire harness that is plugged into the OEM wire harness. This ties into the brakes, turn signals, etc.

The connecting cable between the MH and Jeep is part of the OEM wire harness system (but it's actually a Bargmann product).

This exact same setup worked perfectly fine with my previous motorhome (Tiffin Allegro).

Now, with the new motorhome, when everything is plugged in, I do NOT get the Jeep's turn signals, brake lights, etc to go on when they are activated at the MH.

I've already tested the 7 pin socket at the rear of the MH, so I know the pins are all working.

I can also hear the clicker inside the Jeep (under the dash) clicking in the exact same frequency as the MH lights (turn signal, hazards), but the actual lights on the Jeep are not activated.

The only thing different from my previous setup is that this is a different coach, but with the same 7 pin socket.

Any ideas what might be causing this problem?

Okay, I believe I found the problem, but that just raises another problem.

Apparently, the supplemental braking system (SMI Duo) I use on the Jeep, and the OEM wiring harness I use for the lights, both require 12volt power to be supplied through the 7 pin connector at the back of the MH.

Using a 7 pin tester, I have confirmed that the 12 volt pin is NOT active at the socket.

Does anyone know if the 12 volt pin is actually connected to a 12v battery on the coach? And if so, is there a switch, fuse, or some other setting that will activate the 12v pin?

If not, I guess I will need to run a hot wire from a battery to the 12v pin on the 7 pin connector.

Problem solved

So, I disassembled the 7 pin connector at the back of the MH, and found that the 12 volt pin (at 1 o'clock position) was not connected. I'm really surprised that any truck/RV manufacturer would install a 7 pin connector, but not wire the 12v power/charge pin.

I just ran a 10 gauge wire with inline fuse directly to the chassis battery. All good now.

Thanks Kayakist, that's exactly why I post this sort of info on forums like this. When I have an issue/problem, I first post it to see if anyone might have any advice or input. In the meantime, I research and tinker on my own. Eventually, once I fix the problem, I post the resolution so that others who may run into the same issues might learn from it, or at least save some time.

This MH (Dynaquest) is new to me (just picked it up a few weeks ago), but I've been RVing for over 20 years, and I've had a travel trailer, Class C, Class A, and now a Super C. I typically maintain/service/fix things myself instead of relying on dealers/service centers, so I've become very familiar with many common RVing issues.

Best of luck, and happy trails!
