Ram 2500 towing
Asking for a friend. His tv is a 2018 ram 2500, 6.4 hemi, auto, 4:10 and he is interested in either a 34IK or 311RL. He is wondering if he has enough truck to tow either of those units. GVWR on the 311rl is 14435 lbs. and 16190 on the 34ik. Would like to hear everyones thoughts. TIA

With a 2500? Absolutely not. That’s 3500 DRW territory.

Both of these 5ers are WAY to heavy for a 2500 due to PIN weights, the 311rl is about 2900Lbs pin weight while the 34ik is over 3200 lbs, (based on 20% PIN weight) this does not include weight of fifth wheel hitch. This is over the max for a 2500. both these weights are within the 3500 SRW and DRW, however it is heavy for both PIN weight and max weight for a SRW, but do able.

Payload aside, the gas 2500 is rated to pull about a 12,500lbs or so trailer.

Yea as others have said about wieght, etc.. But also as a previous owner of a 6.4 Hemi 2500 I wouldn't hitch to that much weight even if it was a 3500. The Motor simply will not pull it in anything other than perfectly flat land and that will be an pretty good struggle..

Having had that truck, did you tow with it? What would you recommend as max pin weight and gvwr?

What does the payload sticker on the drivers door jamb say?

Check out the sticker on the driver side door jam to determine the weights the truck can handle. Looks like to much trailer for the truck. My 5er max is 12000# and my pin weight is around 1900. UVW is 9847. My truck handles this trailer very well with 3:73 gearing and 6.4 Hemi. Just came back 1700 mile trip and average 9.5 towing at 62 mph. Handles very well. Later RJD
