Ram Integrated Brake controller
I have a 2017 Ram 3500 Duelly pulling a 2015 Flagstaff. Fully loaded weight on the 5th wheel is 8577 lbs. I know, way more truck than I need. Since the truck was new I have had issues with the brake controller. It will not stop the trailer safely. Finally found a dealer who had the knowledge and tools to test. Turns out the controller puts out 8.2VDC when energized, gain set at MAX. Tested 3 other Rams, same voltage. Tested F350. 10.6VDC. Answer from Ram engineers, "That's the way it is".
Talking to commercial pullers, they tell me to put on an after market if I want to stop safely. So it looks like I bought a $65K truck and get to hang a controller under the dash.
Anybody else having problems?

I have a ram 3500 also. Have no problem with the controller. There is a setting for a heavy load. It has to be set up. Check your truck manual. My trailer weighs 12,000 pounds have no problem with the factory controller. Also tow/ haul must be turned on. Also if you have a Diesel turn on the Jake Brake

I had a 15 and a 18, both functioned perfect. You will find it don't lock up the brakes but your not supposed to lock up your trailer brakes. But if you read the diesel forums they will tell you there opinion on how it's broke.
Did you set it heavy electric

My brake controller works way better than my prodigy ever did. Also, you don’t get full voltage until you’re at a certain speed. Hopefully that was factored in when your dealer tested it. I have my doubts considering 3 other trucks did the same thing.

Had a 12 Ram CTD and the TBC sucked. Put a P3 in and used it for 6 years. Bought a 2018 Ram 2500 6.4. The TBC works perfect. Towing 9500 lbs I run 7.0-7.5.
My TT also has 12"x2" drums.
Pulled two different trailers with the 12 CTD so I knew it wasn't the trailers.
Also pulled one of the trailers with a 2010 F150 and that TBC worked perfect.
I think it's hit or miss with Rams TBC.

I have a 2017 Ram and 2019 Ford, both with factory brake control in the dash and both work better than every aftermarket I had ever owned. My ram is set on "Heavy Electric".

There was a tsb in 2015 or 16 that made the older ones work right. Than I think a new design in 16 or 17

Correct. Our '17 is an early build and we've had no issues with our TT, a dump trailer and an HD open car hauler with marginal brakes on it.

NO, thats " Not the way it is" However its Ram's default answer with Problems.
Ask to run other trucks voltage when set at max and see what you get.
Explain this is a safety issue and the purpose of the break controller installed on the vehicle is to coordinate the proper operation of trailer brakes. If this is not done properly, then you feel like it creates an unsafe operation, rendering your truck useless for the purpose purchased.
my new 5th wheel is running a tad over 13K now I believe and it stops extremely well.

Had the Ram factory controller on my 2016 and now on my 2019 with no issues, run on "heavy setting"....not to be an ass but make sure your TT brakes are set up and adjusted, because the brake controller won't make up that difference.
