from what I read that thing will put you in class B CDL territory, anything over 26001 pounds requires one, at least then everyone would know the person operating that combo was qualified to be on the highway with it.
Just my 1/2 cent, taxes took the rest all I can afford

Looks like a beast for sure.
Interesting they show it coupled to what's classified as an 'ultra-lite' trailer.

That looks like a fun "toy" ... reminder to go pick up lotto tickies for tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully someone will make an aftermarket PLAIN BLACK grille ... don't know what the people at "Ram" are thinking but 'spose the market research types are being led in that direction.

Pondering ... we actually admit that we have Rams ... so that the Chevy / GMC / Ford people can pick on us ??? There is a reason we leave the screen on the $100 Ugly-as-Sin Craiglist Cheapie Topper open, so the air can get out and we get as much CCC as possible.

Now about the 30,000 pound tow limit - I'm confused. You could already tow max trailer weight of 31,210 with a 2017.

Max towing is with gooseneck. The 30k is for the new 5th wheel hitch option that boosts from 24k max.

Where's it specify gooseneck? Where is the 24k max limit for 5th wheel coming from? The chart I'm looking at on ramtrucks.com just says max trailer weight.

Are they the first to make a hitch at that capacity or something?

The cover of the brochure for my 2014 DRW showed it pulling a Ultra light horse trailer.
But the trailer looked like it could hold 10 horses.

From the article,

"In addition, Ram announced a 30,000-lb fifth-wheel towing uprating that is made possible by an in-house hitch design from Ram Engineering. The upgraded hitch allows the Ram 3500 to haul the heaviest trailers in the industry, allowing customers to move away from Class 4 and Class 5 trucks to haul trailers that would otherwise be limited to 24,000 pounds."

"The 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty maximum gooseneck and conventional hitch maximum trailer weight ratings are 31,210 and 20,000 lbs, respectively."

In Ohio they don't care. Non commercial, drive whatever you want with regular license.

I think this just means you can now tow 30k as equipped from the factory.
The 2017 3500 has 30k+ max trailer rating, and you could get a 30k rated hitch from 3rd party (Reese).

Yes, but I believe those are meant for chassis cab configured trucks and require welding?

In Illinois any truck and trailer who's combined GVWR exceeds 26000, you need a class A non-CDL license. Not actual weight... they simply add the GVWR of truck and trailer together. My '14 Ram 3500 dually with GVWR of 14,000 plus my Coachman Chaparral 360IBL with GVWR of 14,000 qualified me for the highest class non-CDL class A license.

It's like anything else though... no cop will pull you over to check. No RV dealer will ever make sure you have the right license let alone the right truck... but get in an accident and you can bet the lawyers can and will most likely use anything against you they can find.

My 16 ram 3500 drw is rated @ 30,310 lbs and will never even come close to that . Due to the fact who makes a fifth wheel that heavy .

You wouldn't see a load that heavy unless you where a contractor hauling heavy equipment .

Not trying to start a brand war, just getting tired of the silly truck marketing out there. Having 30 ft/lbs more torque than previous years is in my opinion barely worth mentioning. Your are not likely to even notice an increase that small. Plus besting the 2017 Powerstroke by 5 ft/lbs is nothing more than marketing hype. I don't buy anything "best-in-class", I buy what fits my needs and style.

Exactly.. the new 6.2 gasser in the super duty beats the 6.4 in the ram by exactly 1 ft/lb.. but it is now BEST IN CLASS TORQUE. L.. But technically as long as it's beat they can advertise it that way.

People are sheep.if they see a sale sign, they assume it's the best value. They fall for these power and mpg wars. They believe the media.
