Reese Revolution pin box rusting above the wear plate

I have a Rockwood Ultra lite 8299BS that is 2 years old this week with about 20K miles on it. The hitch or pin box has been making horrible clanks and squeaks lately and seems to be beating up the trailer with all the motion. I had it serviced by a dealer about a year ago under warranty for the same issue.

I figured I needed to replace the wearable parts in the pin box so ordered the Reese 86016 kit.

I pulled the pin box off the wings and separated the Revolution and the turret. First thing I noticed was that the turret was heavily rusted where the paint had come off which gouged the wear plate and further scratched off paint, etc. The paint on about half the pin was gone and quite rusted as well.

I live in California and it rarely sees rain (sadly).

Anyone have this issue and/or a solution?

Had that issue shortly after we bought our RV back in 2014. I break it down, clean and lube as part of my yearly maintenance, end of noise and squeaks.

Yep, just sounds like a maintenance issue. Would love to know what or if that dealer did anything to it last year. I'm assuming you regularly check the torque on the castellated nut and other mounting fasteners.

I have the Sidewinder (same principle but different design) and re-grease it once a year when I do my wheel bearings. Have had the best results with Lucas Red-n-Tacky grease.
