If you do a search on the forum, this has been discussed in numerous threads. Bottom line is, with a slider hitch, any of the short beds can be made to work. If you have a 3/4 truck (2500/F-250), you'll get the 6.5' bed (approx) which is good for almost all new 5ers without the slider...but it is still recommended for "peace of mind".

If you look at a Flagstaff or Rockwood, they have Reese Revolution Sidewinder pin boxes which DO NOT require a slider hitch for short beds.

I had a Nissan Titan short bed. I used a super glide hitch. Worked perfectly.
I have since upgraded, but I still have the hitch if your interested?

I do not have a short bed but would like to add that I do love my long box and am very glad I have it.

MMM. No slide...newbie driver (first trip).... 6 1/2' bed...5th wheel(rounded nose)..== DENTED CAB. Get the slide and use and eliminate MOST of the doubts. It is not OFTEN needed, but when you do... you have it!
IMHO

6.5' bed, Reese Revolution Sidewinder pin box, 16k Reese hitch, turn over 90° and full bed tonneau cover while towing. Love it!

05 Silverado 1500 ext. cab and 0-60 mph in 45+ minutes.

I have the aftermarket Sidewinder and tow my 5th wheel with my crew cab 5'8" bed, no problem on turns. That way you can use a standard hitch and save the very heavy chore when you want to remove it. Talked to a friend this week who had the dealer install his hitch when he bought the trailer. Dealer said he could do a 90 with it in a pinch. Dealer was WRONG. Dealer fixed his truck cab for free and installed a slider.

I just blows me away that people think they have to go 90* to back a fifth wheel.

I have a 2011 F-250 with a slider hitch. I have yet to use the slide after 2+ years of camping with it. Some of the newer trailers have front caps and the king pin farther out to accommodate the short bed trucks. TV and trailer together is your best answer for it.

Also BE Aware of shady hitch dealers telling you "You can install the base plates for your hitch farther back in the bed." Not a good idea. A properly installed hitch puts king pin of trailer just in front your rear axel.
