Some days it"s a *****, some days it's a breeze

I have an Alpha Tow Bar on my Class C Forester. I have been towing my Jeep Patriot for 9 months with it. I generally don't have a problem with unhitching it, but occasionally (like today),on uneven terrain and or tight quarters, the interlocking claws bind together enough that is nearly impossible to pull the locking pins. Is it just me? Does anyone have a hot tip to solve this quickly and easily without having to continually try to align RV and toad? Thanks for your thoughts.
