Someone tested tow capacity with semi trailer

Was viewing interwebs and found this.
https://cdllife.com/2019/pickup-driv...ng-53-trailer/

Glad that some commom sense prevailed. The scary thing to me was the pin setup...no payload discussions as this thing had front wheels. No word on weights and I am not sure what that tank was for. Curious what others see.

Still no us example as this was Canada.

I make no claims on legitimacy as I simply found it surfing...

At least the pickup is not exceeding it's load carrying capacity.
Towing capacity, not so much.
You can buy high mileage, run out tractor for less than the cost of that pickup...which probably needs a new transmission.
Those photos are no doubt humorously viral within the trucking industry.
I am guessing the tank is for compressed air for the brakes. Looks like a hose goes to a "gladhand" on the semi-trailer...the 5th wheel is the dolly.

Iím guessing the truck went unscathed no transmission problems to worry. Here are some specs I found on a f-650 with Allison transmission Click image for larger version

The slow moving sign and fact it was down in tobacco country would make me think it was a farmer moving it from one farm to another. If it was empty it may not weigh as much as a hay wagon loaded with hay bales. Without a doubt, the guy now has a problem lol. Canít imagine why he did this when there are so many tractors sitting around.

He did take the time to rig up an air line and tail lights. I don't know why he didn't use a pintle hitch off of the truck to the tow dolly. That single 3/4" hitch pin isn't pretty.

I'd be interested to know exactly what the ticket was for. For all we know it was something like failure to signal a turn.

Seems to be legit. Story is from the verified Twitter account of the Ontario Provincial Police west region. Their info is that the driver was ticketed for over length vehicle and prohibited use of slow moving vehicle sign.

That global warming stuff must be working for Canada to become tobacco country!

Down here in sunny southern Arizona the Rednecks and Mexicans move stuff like that with farm tractors. They do it on Sunday morning, 72" house trailers or any woppy jaw load imaginable.

"ticketed for over length vehicle and prohibited use of slow moving vehicle sign"

Sounds like a routine stop...

So if he would have chosen a slightly shorter trailer with the same setup and just ditched the saftey sign he would have been golden. I thought that might be the case, there really aren't laws about how rigged up something is, it's just weight, lights, brakes, length, etc. Now if your setup actually causes a problem then they may find something bigger to charge you with.
