successful maiden trip with trailer

after 6 years of flat towing the jeep behind the georgetown, i bought a 18' aluminum trailer. 2 5200 lb axles, both with brakes. two questions if anyone can help:

1. at the campground, i disconnected the trailer before i leveled the mh because i was unsure. can i use the leveling jacks with the trailer attached? can i use the leveling jacks with the trailer attached and the jeep loaded?

2. i did not do any measuring of tongue weight. i attached the trailer and measured distance from ground to ball adapter. i loaded the jeep forward until this measurement decreased about 1 inch. good enough??? lucky to have made it???

thanks.
