Surprise new tow vehicle
Happy birthday to me. Day after my birthday, yesterday went to another town for a couple doctor visits. In between visits, time to kill, lets check out this town's Ford dealer. Found a F-150 that had what we needed, could afford, they gave us a decent price and trade, drove to the second doctor in a NEW TRUCK!
Race Red, supercrew 5.5' bed 5L V8, 10 speed, tow package, integrated brake controller, back up towing assist system. Color matched front with black honeycomb grill, no chrome.
Ordered weathertech window deflectors, weathertech clone floor mats for half their price, some color matched veteran window decals.
Bonus: I parked the Explorer first then the F-150 on my concrete pad and measured hitch receiver hights. I used Hitch inside bottom lips for reference. F-150 was 18", Explorer was 17&3/4". I strongly suspect that I won't have to do a thing on my WDH Worse case, move the bar platforms on the TT A-frame a little.
2nd bonus: SWMBO was very leary of traveling far and pulling big hills with a ten year old V6 Explorer. Now she is happy and confident.
I am so looking forward to hooking up and going camping with the new TV!

My first car was a 1966 red Mustang convertible 289 bought in 1974. I've had other brands but primarily stick with Fords. An Aerostar, three Explorers (plus helped my daughter buy one), and an Expedition.

SWMBO's favorite color. She was stunned when she found I liked it on this one. A red Ford V8, just like my first car

Very nice. Yeah, it will surely tow just a wee bit better than the Explorer. Have fun!

Break in? Race engines are run about an hour on the dyno. Check the tune, fuel flow, power. Alternate between low speed and power pulls. After break in, couple of track cessions at various speeds and loads. Let it cool down and race it.
Basicly if it is working well, loading it will not hurt it. Keep an eye on the gages and fluid levels. Enjoy your truck.
Most recommend not to do long runs at a steady speed. Vary speed as you drive.

Yes, break in. Why take a chance on a 50K+ brand new vehicle. It doesn't take long to run up a thousand miles. And now you won't have to worry about it if something does/did happen. Peace of mind.

Just got unconfused some on the limited weight data I had. Still concerned about others.
GTWR is 9100# per towing guide.
GVWR is 7000# per door sticker.
GCWR is 14400#(owner's manual) or 14500# (towing guide).
Payload 1990#
As best I can find, base weight 5010#
Base weight plus payload adds up to the GVWR.
However, GCWR minus GVWR leaves 7400# for the TT per owner's manual GCWR.
Just trying to have all the specs available in case I ever go bigger on a TT.
Currently, my GTWR is only 3877#, so no probs truck-wise.

This is what so many people don't seem to understand. They think 9100 lbs means 9100 lbs.

Uh, care to expound on that? I think 9100 lbs is 9100 lbs.
