Swapping Trunion Bars

I have a Curt weight distribution hitch rated for 5k-6k lbs. We recently purchased a new Flagstaff Super Lite 26RBWS that weighs in at 6445 lbs. dry weight. Two questions. Do I need a new hitch rated for a higher weight? Can I purchase new trunion bars rated for more weight and use them with my current hitch head unit.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Myself I would replace the current hitch with a WDH the is rated in the 8K range with 1k bars and sell the current hitch. JMHO

Although ours is a Reese SC hitch, I was able to upgrade just the bars when we moved from a PUP to a ROO. You would have to verify your setup to ensure the head unit is not the limiting factor, of course

I've upgraded bars on my Husky Centerline TS. We started with 600-800 pound bars for our 7,500. After weighing the trailer, the hitch weight was more than 800 so I switched to 800-1200 bars. After readjusting, it worked well.
