Thinking of upgrading my truck

Current truck is in my sig. I love it except for:

1. I am at max on weights (GVWR)
2. I am going to pop out my back window at some point with the GenY setup and short bed
3. The 6.0L engine is bullet proof but a little anemic for my 5er

There is a 2022 F350 7.3L long bed with 86,500 miles on it at a local dealer I am going to go look at today. It solves the three issues above and has everything I would want if I bought a new truck. The miles are high for a two year old truck. Not sure how you put that many miles on a truck so fast. They have it listed for $44k, though. Here's a link to the truck:

https://www.lebanonford.com/used/For...27c5fe17ce.htm

Worth the upgrade?

Could be a leased truck used by a hot shot hauling cargo. I would be a little leery with that many miles on a gas engine.

I looked at the Carfax report and it says it was purchased at the dealer that has it for sale and was maintained there. It was purchased early Oct 2021 so it averaged 33,000 miles a year.

My next truck will be a 1 ton. Wish I had started out with one.

I priced my truck as a trade in and it's giving me $12k from several different sources. But the same truck with the same miles is listing for $24k on AutoTrader. I'd be happy with $20k.

With that many miles and a fifth wheel hitch, that truck may have been used to move RVs around the country. That is very hard usage, I would pass on that truck.

You are better off with a used diesel. The modern 7.3 is a gas engine and the last 7.3 Ford diesel was made in 2003.

Caefax history shows one service was done in TX and one in WV so it seems well traveled. I have a number in mind that would make it an easy decision. That truck is exactly what I would build on a new truck except the winch. Not sure why a hotshotter would buy a CC 4x4 with a $3k winch on it.

Highly encourage a one ton. We went from a 3/4 to a 1 and the difference in stability in the wind when pulling a fiver is noticeable.

PS. We tow with a 7.3. Works great.

I had a 2014 version of your truck, my F350 rides way better, loaded or not. Not sure if I would go that high with that many miles, I did not look at the listing and an XL or limited would make a big difference in price.

Just called the dealer and they said it sold yesterday. The search continues.

Used market can still be crazy at times. Good deals don't stick around long.

It had been on the lot since 3 April.

Not with today's engines. I bought my 2006 Tahoe in 2012 with 90,100 miles on it for $11,000. It was a used State Highway Patrol vehicle, shop records were meticulous. Regular oil changes and transmission fluid changes.

Still driving it with 187,000 miles. No major repairs.

I will second the statement that higher miles don’t scare me as much as they used to. In my opinion since mid to late 90s most again emphasis on most engines can easily run into the 200k when properly maintained.
To the OP just buying a 2020 or newer in most circumstances you will see substantial improvements. In my humble opinion the eco boost and 6.2 by ford forced the other manufacturers to step up their game this coming from a guy that has Ford 3rd on the big 3 list. Now if you’re still in the market find a national dealer or at least one that is a part of several dealership they can search other dealerships on used vehicles giving you more options.

Well, I missed out on a nice 2021 XLT 7.3 CCLB with 33,000 miles. Sold yesterday. Seems everything sells yesterday.

There is a 2020 F350 Limited with 6.7L oil burner CCLB with 65k miles that a local dealer just got in. It's getting serviced right now and getting new tires. Price is $60k which KBB says is spot on. Original sticker was $84,505. Gonna put a refundable deposit on it to hold it so I can test drive it once it gets out of service.

Ok, I have right of first refusal on this one once it comes out of service. Can't believe I might get an oil burner.

Good stuff moves fast. I put my 2019 Silverado on FB Marketplace late Friday night and got two offers within minutes. Those guys waffled and I offered it to another person on Monday and they showed up on Tuesday and paid full asking price. And there was a bunch more in line.
