"P" rated tires do not have the sidewall stiffness for towing a trailer. The "P" rated tires are for passenger cars/SUV's, that will give you a softer ride in the vehicle. "LT" tires are a light truck tire. The tire will have stiffer sidewalls for heavier loads and towing. The ride will suffer somewhat due to the stiffer sidewall (less flex) but the towing and hauling experience will be greatly improved.
My personal opinion is I would never tow with any vehicle that is equipped with "P" rated tires on the vehicle. I would change them out to a "LT" tire. You may need new wheels also that will fit the "LT" tire if the tire profile is changed.
