I largely agree, hopefully commonsense prevails however on these shared highways where other drivers rights end where mine begin. There are more threats out there than you could list in addition to overweight situations with campers but if someone takes out my family I could care less if their texting in a car or pulling too much weight behind an inadequate tow vehicle you can count on seeing me in court.

Texting you could prove in court being overloaded would be another thing. Common sense is one thing a lot of campers don't seem to have. DOT has no standards for campers, I carry $500,000.00 for underinsured or uninsured and I guess that's where that would come in at

Its just money..... But having a bunch of lawyers picking my carcass clean after I have worked for what I have for 25 years was literally keeping me up at night. I know, I know I worry too much. But I'm not worried about weights anymore, now I can get back to dreading backing into campsites with a 42' camper...
Liberty,

Try this is absolutely will de-mystify backing in to Campsites!

I get yelled at by DW a lot, since we have two phones she gives me a call and I put my phone on speaker so she can really yell at me but she knows I'm none to bright. I look dumb a lot backing in but guess what I'm not ever going to see these people again that are watching me back in

I know its a week old thread, but gone to offer my $0.02...go 1 Ton Dually. I am a real world example. Bought a 2013 F350 Diesel SRW for my Brookstone 340LS based on sales rep at RV place. Well finally got everything loaded and went to scales. We were loaded for a week long trip to Galveston. Front end hitch with 3 bikes, me, wife, and daughter. Full tank gas. Empty holding tanks with 1/3 full fresh water tank. Food for the week, and here are my #s.
As you can see, well over max weights even though the overall fiver weight is still below what the towing guides indicate.

Well for me, it was quite eye opening, so I went ahead an rectified that issue...with a DRW and I can say 110% the DRW feels more stable and drives the rig better.

Thanks for posting real life figures. It's good to see reality, not just what we want to believe.

Wife wants bigger trailer
We need to step up to a DRW 350 to handle the weigth
HOA recommends parking vehicles in garage and DRW won’t fit.
Find storage for DRW TV
One side garage is empty and needs filling
Buy a 1967 Chevelle or Camaro to fill the empty spot
Hmmmmmm
Honey, when do want to looking for the bigger 5er

For anyone worried about "aluminum can" lookup. That plane flying overhead is made of the same material.

Oh, that is a slippery slope. I fell so bad I had to add another garage (oh look room for just one more, I kept saying).

They are like potato chips (trying to eat just one).

I recently went through this same dilema....I chose the DRW. I went from a 1500 towing a 6k lb TT and am now towing an 8200lb TT with a 3500 DRW. Huge difference! I would not even consider an SRW with a fifth wheel. The cost between an SRW and DRW is less than 2k. It takes a little getting used to parking wise but I typically just head for the back of the lot. It also helps to back in if you can't get a good remote spot. Most of your drive through days will be over as well but I think of these as pros.
The real pros though are the safety. You will also have much bether trade in value with the DRW....the dealer will up charge an SRW buyer but will beat up a trade in.

You can always request a 24hr test drive and see if you can tolerate it as a DD......good luck!

Underground parking garage in Cincinnati- length was way more of an issue than width (though, fitting through the entry/tool booths made me pucker quite a bit!). I find this true almost everywhere.

I was J/K Notaz.

One BIG advantage of aluminum is if you live up north you will not have to worry about body rust through!

Odd the 2016 Superduty site I looked at makes no reference to aluminum being used, the F150 has aluminum. I hope the front axle problems get worked out for current owners, that's pretty scary recall/repurchase.
