Tow Advice Please

10 years towing 7500 lbs 28' TT...first with 03 F150 short box crew then with 13 Chevy crew 1500. No issues. Used EQ 4 point WDH and it towed nice, even in heavy cross wind. Usually 3 adults, 2 kids, two dogs.

I always enjoy reading these threads, but try to stay out of them for sanity purposes. Guess I'm feeling crazy today

Here's what I tell everybody. Once you are over 26' in a tt, or any fifth wheel or toy hauler, just get a 3/4 ton or better.

I pulled for years with a half ton and was under all the weight limit suggestions. I thought everything was just fine and had no problems. Then I switched to a 3/4 ton in preparation for a heavier RV. I could not believe the improvement in towing experience. I kicked myself for not doing it about three trailers before that.

Than I moved from gas to diesel. Whoa! A whole 'nuther giant step up in towing evolution. Now it's just a pleasure to tow

Move up to a bigger truck if you can and stop fussing over payloads and air bags, special hitches, and other add-ons to try and make your half ton work better. You will kick yourself for waiting so long

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but the fact that you are asking for advice makes me think you may feel the same, but are hoping advice will sway you into thinking otherwise. Go with your gut feeling. Of course this is my opinion only.

You got that one right.. I did not know what I did not know.. Going from a 1500 to an HD truck was a huge improvement.

The 1500 did pretty good in a 1400 mile flat land trip but we were over on payload by 300. Not a tremendous amount but we also packed very light for the trip. Anyone out there with practical experienced with a 2017ewer model Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi with a 3.73 rear end pulling a 34 foot trailer that roles in about 7300 lb loaded with an approximate 800 lb tongue weight? A little curious about Towing ability in the mountains as well as approximate fuel economy. Granite you do not buy a 6.4 for the fuel efficiency but just wondering if a 2500 with a 5.7 would be just as good as a 6.4.
