Holy cow poor tundra. That looks like the frame could be bent. That is the next truck I am getting. Won't see me doing anything like that.

On that note...picture this in your mind.

Had about a 1998 31' A class drive past me flat towing a 2004 dodge 1500 short bed with a 22' boat IN THE BED! The bow was way over the cab at about a 45 degree angle held on to the truck with 3" ratchet straps! They were doing about 65- decided to pull off at rest stop to put some time and distance between us.

-"it can tow 10,500 lb and this is only about 7000"(with about 4k tongue wt.)
-going coon hunting tonight?

Bad thing is we see tunda rear axles tore loose in wrecks more than on any other truck out there.

hondaman, i would have wanted to be in FRONT of that fool. that way when he crashed, and tied the hiway up for however long, i would be in front blissfully unaware of the laughter from the cops as they wrote his goofy butt a ticket.

A guy I work with has a Toyota Tundra that has been recalled. Apparently, Toyota sent several trucks to northern states with the wrong frame. A mechanic was able to put a ball peen hammer through the frame with no effort at all. Toyota is paying to have a new frame put on a 10+ year old truck! They wouldn't give him a deal on a new truck. That has to be VERY expensive!

Yes I did a warranty frame swap on a tacoma a year or so ago and it had about 120,000 miles on it, tore motor mount area on frame. Payed about 30 hours @ frame labor rate of $55 hour, and usually $1500-3500 for frames. I think toyotas cutting corners is really starting to hurt them. There is a new recall it seem every week and they are starting to loose customers it seems. I like working on then cause they have some crazy high repair times- glad I don't have pay for it.

I have a buddy that has a 05 Tacoma. He isn't very nice to his truck and his passenger side motor mount went through his frame. Toyota warrantied the frame with a baja style frame. Had more rienforcements all over it. For the frame and all the labor it was $15000. Took the Toyota dealer about a week and a half to get it all done.

I'm they guy in our area that does them. I've done enough if them that I usually can knock one out in about 1 1/2 -2 days if there is no collision damage!

Maybe it's not enough weight. It's not like it's towing the space shuttle or anything.

OUCH! That is a great visual for why a vehicle's capabilities, set up and towing capacities should be heeded! I would rather be overkill in ability and preparedness...I'm just not one to take unnecessary risks when traveling alone to "B.F.E." on long stretches of isolated roads in the wee hours of the morning...

jlbreaux - I dunno...between your posts of these overloaded vehicles & "Rocket City Rednecks" on tv, I am not sure which has proved more entertaining! LOL...big diff is the guys on tv purposely are out to provide viewer entertainment versus the dummies who have no clue about loading nd towing in the photos...thanks for sharing the link! Wow!

I'd never buy another Toyota.
I've bought several. Every time I've had an issue they've treated me like crap. They act like the sun shines out their *****.

Have y'all seen the commercial on TV for the new Nissan Pathfinder...it claims a tow capacity of 5K (realistic ) BUT at the end of the clip they are towing a 28' Airstream camper through the redwoods!
They don't make "ultra light" Airstreams! Too funny, these type of commercials are what get people in trouble
