Towing
Hey I’m a newbie we just bought our 2019 wildwood 29qble a few months ago. I have a 2017 expedition xlt with the H-D tow package . I have never pulled a trailer before so thought I was nervous about it. So we took it out for the first time last month and my expedition felt like I was loosing my steering at times . It really scared me , so since then went and bought me a dually to pull it with afraid this was 2 much for my expedition. The towing capacity is 9200 so wasn’t thinking I was over weight . this was the day we brought it home .
Not sure if the dealer set the hitch right and we have since adjusted it and it didn’t help .
What to do?

It sounds like you've addressed your concerns by buying a dually.

Dually ??? Quite a bit of "Overkill" but if it works. From the pic, that trailer was Squatting that Expedition quite a bit. It took a lot of weight off your front tires which makes it feel squirrely when driving.

A dually will do it. No issues there.
I would imagine that we are at about the same weight. I was trying to pull the camper with an Escalade. My F-350 Dually is a lot more solid. Better fuel mileage too.
Congratulations. Sounds like you're set.
Yes, and I'd be the guy to show up at a knife fight with a sword.

Thanks , yes the trailer is 7000 lbs . We found this F 350 that was a one owner and that’s all they used it for was their 5th wheel . We got a good deal but still bugs the fire outta me with the expedition but I’m happy for a safer better pull

You'll be happier with your dually. Technically, the other vehicle probably could have handled it but the truck is a better choice especially if you're going to be traveling long distance or in the mountains.
You should post up a pic of the truck. :-)

That loose steering feeling was sway.
Even though the Expedition had the tow capacity, you were probably over the cargo capacity.
I ran into the same feeling with my Nissan Frontier, I sold it and got the Ram.

You’re going to enjoy towing a lot more with the Dually. You’ll arrive more relaxed and if you ever end up in an OH **** moment the truck will help you control the situation.
BTW...pics of the truck or it never happened!

X2.
The dry weight (for suckers only!) is 6555 lbs, so your dry tongue weight, assuming 13% of total weight, is AT LEAST 6555 x 0.13 = 852 lbs, plus the WDH weight of 75-100 lbs. So loaded to camp, I'm guessing your tongue weight is AT LEAST 1000 lbs. (At your GVWR of 9730 your TW would be about 1264 lbs.) The TT has 4 bunks, so you've got a passel of kids. Add the weight of you, wife, kids, dogs, and stuff you put in the Expedition, then add the assumed 1000 lbs for tongue weight. The total should be LESS THAN the payload number on the sticker on your drivers door frame. It looks like this on from my Traverse (payload 1501 lbs):
SUV's are notorious for not having a lot of payload.

We are raising 4 of our grandkids so yes I’m very sure we were close to our capacity even with me be very careful not to load a bunch of stuff to carry . It all adds up that for sure .

Check out Ford Truck Enthusiasts.com. The 6.0l is a good engine but there’s certain things that you MUST be aware of in order to keep it dependable.
Keep the batteries charged or use a smart charger when not driving it for long periods. The EGR doesn’t do well with long idles etc. FTE is a great forum. Truck looks great!

You made a mistake by only looking at towing capacity, when you should have focused on payload capacity first, especially with a SUV.
Nearly all tow vehicles will run out of payload capacity WAY before reaching max towing capacity.
Your dealer should be ashamed of letting you leave with such a dangerous setup.
The hitch is clearly not setup rignt and you should have never left the dealer until they adjusted the hitch to return more weight to the front axle.
But even if they did, it may have not helped much.
I wish you would have come here first before buying the trailer and the dually.[emoji853]

Mine is an 07 and had 128k last year when I bought it. It now has almost 160k.
Put a coolant bypass filtration kit on there if you don't have it already.

Awesome great thanks for the information! This is the first diesel we have owned so really don’t know much at all .
We hearing to add stiction in oil and something else to the fuel so it doesn’t gel up .

Wow! Nice truck. Congratulations. Now you're already set up for your next TT/5th wheel.
