Towing

My tow vehicle is a 2019 ram 1500 5.7 hemi regular cab according to the literature because of the axle ratio its only rated to tow 8,500 lbs. I have a 33 foot wildwood 27 rk whose dry weight is 6700 with a payload capacity of1,000. Its been used ad a live in and I've never towed it and had begun to look into WDH s for it but now am realizing the tow vehicle may not be adequate . Wondering what anyone's thoughts might be on that. Thanks

You definitely will need a larger truck to tow that. That camper is three quarter ton territory. That said it's hard to believe you have a half ton truck with only 1k payload capacity. That trailer's tongue weight alone will be more than 1k pounds. Before you put yourself, your family and your gear in with it you'll be over payload already.

Sorry, but that's too much trailer according to the truck.

You don't want to be this guy:

What is the payload on the truck? I assume the 1,000 is on the trailer.

With a camper, truck payload is almost always the first limit hit.

Posy a pic of the truck's payload capacity sticker.
It's on the driver's door and will say "Occupants and cargo should not exceed xxxxlbs".
What year is the Wildwood?
A WDH doesn't increase the the truck's payload capacity.
Older Ram 1500s are notorious for low payload capacities.
I'm betting that the trailer's loaded tongue weight will exceed the truck's payload capacity.

My 2016 Ram 1500 has a payload of 1820# but I special ordered it with the heavier axle and tow package. This is the low trim level but it's still got a lot of the necessities jus no chrome or leather heated seats.
Check the door sticker for payload numbers.

That 950lbs number is a fictional DRY tongue weight. It doesn't include the weights of batteries, factory options, dealer add-ons, water and trailer cargo.
It may also not include the weight of propane, only empty tank weight.
Loaded for camping, its true tongue weight will easily be over 1100lbs. That puts it in 3/4 ton territory.
Wish you had come here BEFORE buying that Wildwood.

According to Wildwoods web site the trailer weighs close to 8000 lbs loaded. That would make the tongue weight well over 1000 lbs close to 1200 lbs.

Do not go by dry weight as others have mentioned gross weight would be closer. Bet since you have been living it the trailer is overloaded too.
