Towing mirrors

Is anyone using the mirrors that slide over the oem mirror for any kind of truck? I have a 2013 Toyota tundra so if any tundra owners have them that would be great too. I can get the replacement oem extendable style tow mirrors. But they are $375 and the slide over style mirrors are $70. I think they would about the same for all trucks for the oem non extendable mirrors. I was just wondering if they stick out far enough to see down the side of the trailer. Thanks.

I used the ones that attach to the mirror on my 2000 Tundra. They worked fine, just make sure they are on tight or you might get some vibration.

I haven't seen those. They look pretty promising. I would be interested in those for my 2010 Tundra. The big thing for me is are they easy to get on/off and do they stay put. These look like they do both of those.

I had a pair of the CIPA slide ons on my Ram 1500 and experienced lots of vibration, so much so that they were pretty much useless. I replaced them with the Ram factory towing mirrors.

The factory mirrors are pricey compared to CIPA, but you only get what you pay for.

And then these are the others. Not Toyota oem but are exactly the same. I haven't looked at the dealership but I am sure they are more expensive. My dad got them for his tundra and they seem ok but did read somewhere that the glass can fall out so that is why I am not sure about buying these.

I have these mirrors (GMC version - from etrailer) and find them to work very well. The mirrors are manually adjustable and once you figure out how to mount them snugly you should have have no vibration. They allow me to see completely down the drivers side of the trailer but the passenger side is somewhat blocked by the retracted canopy arms. I just do a gentle swerve when I really need to check behind the rig.

Thanks guys I do like the extendable mirrors but I do also like the way my truck looks without them and as easy as the slide mirrors look I just wanted to make sure they are out far enough.

I also purchased mine through Etrailer, I have had very good luck with them on a multitude of purchases.

We initially bought the add-on CIPA mirrors for our F150. Nice idea and cheap, but we found the mirrors did not stick out far enough and the glass area is too small. And, the thumb screw attachment method seems rather flimsy. It would be easy for someone to hit one in a parking lot and break it or it even looks like they could fall off while driving if you don't have them attached properly. And I found I had to check them occasionally to make sure the screws hadn't loosened (as I did find).

After a a few months of using the add-on ones, I found a smoking deal on ebay (around $150) for the correct CIPA extending ones for our model year of truck. The glass area is flippin' huge compared to the add-on ones and the visibility is great. Sure, they look kinda oversized, but man do they work.

I had a 2007 tundra that came with the smaller mirrors and did the swap to a cheaper towing mirror purchased off ebay for far less than OEM and worked just as well. With my Silverado, I have smaller mirrors and opted to try the Cipa mirrors like you linked to and do not have anything negative to say about them. I had to tighten them more than I thought I would to get rid of the small amount of shake they had, but since figuring that out I've had no issues.
Between the two, I far prefer the view from true towing mirrors compared to the Cipa slip-ons, I think I was able to see better out of them. One of these days when I get around to it, I will change my Silverado over to true extendable towing mirrors.

We use the CIPA 11300 pair of mirrors with our Sequoia, which I believe have the same mirrors as your Tundra. $49 at Amazon.

I had the on my 2001 Silverado and now on my 2011 GMC Sierra. I think they work very well. When I bought my GMC they were part of my decision if I got the big camping mirrors on my new truck or not. Since they were available I got my GMC with the standard mirrors. I really did not want the big camping style mirrors since when not pulling the trailer it makes pulling in the garage and general driving a little more difficult. When we are camping somewhere for a long period of time they easily come off for driving around town. Would recommend them. If anyone is looking for a pair of 2001 Silverado/GMC style ones I am selling my old ones.

X2, I also find the mirror to be to small to see down the passenger side. They fit good no vibration just didn't care for the size of mirror.

I absolutely love my OEM tow mirrors on my 08 tundra! They grow on you, especially with all of the angles your able to see with the convex mirror as well as the regular rear view! Many dealers like TRDsparks.com and Sam Stewart at Lowe Toyota in Georgia will give you a great price if you ask. Then you won't have to worry about the possibility of vibrations. Though mine are completely manual except for the mirror heater and the rear view mirror adjustment, I love them. I have heard there is a power fold version that just came out. That would be nice but not a must have!

Tow mirrors

Milenco offers a set of tow mirrors that work well (milenco.com). They work very well, honestly Mckesh mirrors are the next best thing after factory tow mirrors but are very ugly and mount off the side of the door (if anyone ever hit one I could see it kinking a door panel). I used the mckesh mirrors for the last 4 seasons but recently invested in the milenco's.

Happy camping,

I use CIPA mirrors on my Silverado that I bought from Amazon.com. I have not had vibration problems, and I've pulled my trailer over some pretty rough terrain. In fact, I leave them on all the time and have 21,xxx miles on the truck. I,too, looked at the replacement OEM mirrors that extend, but thought I'd try these first. They clip on tightly, vibrate very little, do not affect the electric adjustment of the OEM mirrors. I'm pretty happy with mine.

I think it depends how much you travel. I use to use slide on but when I up graded to larger 5th I didn't like the view of the slide ons. Look up kool-vue mirrors for you year and make. I put a complete telescoping set on my 2008 f150, 2 replacement rt side telescoping on my e150 ( dw likes mailboxes) , then switched complete set to non telescoping mirrors for my 2006 e150. You can't beat the price and they look exactly like factory and plug and play with the wiring.

I have the CIPA ones. I had considerable vibration of the mirror, but not the actual housing when installed. I got them set where I needed them to be and then used a few short beads of black silicone caulk to secure them. No vibration now and they work great. I did use some foam tape to make the housing more snug also.
