Towing Rockwood 8289ws

We purchased a 2018 Rockwood 8289ws. Looking at purchasing a f150 crewcab 3.5 eco boost 10 speed trans 3.73 diff max towing package heavy duty payload package max towing capacity 11300 lbs. Would like to know if anyone is towing this 5th wheel with a f150?

Check the payload number on the door of the truck you are looking at and the real pin weight of the 5th wheel (15-20% of GVWR) based on specs it looks like a pin weight of 1600-2100lbs. I would not think of it.

There are very few 5th wheels that are good for any 1/2 ton.

Congrats on the trailer. Very nice.

You are smart to ask first. Wish I had. Most F150s have an average payload of about 1500-1600lbs unless you get the HDPP package and/or supercab.

Your payload for that trailer is over a supercab F150 total payload capacity with the dry pin weight and that leaves no room for you or gear in the truck or the trailer.

As someone who pulled a 7K bumper pull trailer loaded I would reccomend against the F150. I just upgraded to an F350 so I could upgrade later to a 5er. I sometimes miss my F150 EB with 1100lbs of tongue weight it was not very stable no matter what I tried though.

A 5er may be more stable but the rear axle will be over by over by hundreds of lbs with an empty trailer and no passengers. The rear axles are rated at 3800lbs max and curb weight is 2300lbs from mine. Loaded you are looking at 2k pin weight which puts you over the rear axle rating by 1100lbs.

You are in 3/4 gasser or 1 ton gasser/diesel territory most likely. A 3/4 diesel may cut it depending on that payload sticker and the rear axle rating.

Happy camping!

What's the payload capacity sticker say? If it has the HDPP, it should be over 2000lbs.
Look for the driver's door yellow sticker, it'll be the Tires and Loading yellow sticker. It'll say "Occupants and cargo should not exceed xxxxlbs".
With a fictional "dry" pin weight of 1420lbs, adding the weights of batteries, factory options, water and cargo, will put its real world pin weight up near 1800lbs.

welcome and welcome to the payload tow capacity never ending ongoing conversation of the internet. I wont even comment more unless I see the payload sticker on your door. Don't take advice from guys towing pop ups and micro lites with duallys.

In my sig, that's what we have. Used to pull a fiver with a half ton, and consider myself lucky to still be around. Remember, you still have to stop that thing...

I have that trailer and wouldn't even consider towing it with a half ton, and we have towed a smaller 5th with our previous 1/2 ton. I even made the switch from 3/4 gas to diesel, but that's a whole other conversation!
